I have lived on and owned yachts for 15 years and travelled up and down the east coast of Australia during that time in a 50' foot ferro yacht. They were fantastic years of freedom, being rocked to sleep, of the smell of the ocean and the beauty of living on the water.
I have certification as an inshore skipper and currently doing the theory to complete a RYA Yachtmaster qualification. I am also a scuba diver (been out of it for a few years but keen to get back into the water) certified to rebreather level. If you see the web site I am also a published photographer and dabbled in video for the TV stations here in Australia. My profession is in Information Technology and I have just retired (till the money runs out :) as manager of the clinical computer systems for a health district in Queensland, Australia. I am very competent at fixing almost anything and can weld, rebuild motors, trace electrical faults and rebuild computers. With fibreglass alas I can stick myself to almost anything!
I enjoy company and am a good and compasionate listener. I have been trained as and spent 3 years as a volunteer telephone counsellor for Lifeline so am fairly experienced at helping people through rough patches in their lives.
I love music of almost any kind and am currently listening to Florence + the machine, Evanescence, Skylar Grey, Beth Orton, The National, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, The Audreys, Lana Del Rey, Dido, The Cranberries, James Blunt, Jewel, Sia, The Shins .. And the list goes on :)

Sailing on our boat can be a truly transformative experience. Not only is it an amazing way to see the beautiful sights and landscapes of the world, but sailing also allows you to connect with nature in a unique way. Away from all the hustle and bustle of everyday life, sailing offers a chance for introspection and reflection.
It's said that once you've sailed away from land, your view of life changes forever. You start to appreciate everything around you - whether it's the seagulls flying overhead or simply how peaceful and quiet it is out at sea. It doesn't matter what type of sailor you are - catamaran sailors, dinghy sailors, or even powerboat enthusiasts - everyone will find something special about sailing on a boat!

The yacht is a 2003 Bavaria 49.
Our voyage has been to sail in stages to Thailand from Greece and then tour Asia. W have so far spent 4 years to completing the journey. We set out in 2013 so we are probably going to take a little longer :)

This sailing season we plan to have a bit of a bias on the more remote islands so will be exploring those spots as well as the well known islands and beaches.

Our first trip will be via the outer islands from Krabi to the Malaysian border at Koh Lipe.From there we return to Krabi via the many beautiful inner islands. We vary the routes and islands according to the weather and also match up crew dreams with islands.

We have 2 kayaks (Two person and one three person) and a three man canoe as well for the keen explorers.

We are cruisers so dates and islands visited are very flexible depending on weather and crew experiences.

As well as our inner island trip we regularly sail the islands from Krabi to the Burma border. We have yet to confirm this trip as the government has introduced very restricted entry in 2022 to the Surin & Similan islands.

We spend between 5 and 15 days out depending on the trip.

I am looking foremost for a compatible happy crew. A yacht is a small world and becomes incredibly small when there is trouble in paradise! Tidiness is a great attribute too as is smelling good (showering is not optional:).

Practical skills such as cooking, watch keeping, navigation ability, sea experience or the willingness to learn are greatly appreciated. I am also very happy to pass on the sailing skills that I have and am a patient teacher.

The cost includes cereal breakfast, light lunch and a cooked meal for dinner. Crew share equally the dish washing duties.

Please expect to share costs such as diesel etc on a fixed cost basis. This is between $75US and $95US per person per day depending on whether it is a couple and for how long you wish to sail. Other costs will be personal costs such as alcoholic drinks, visas, airfares, entry fees (ARC Rally, Thailand Marine Parks), accomodation off the boat, excursions etc. If you are looking at more than 6 weeks we can arrange a better rate.
