I am a former boat owner (Pearson-38 and Island Packet-32) who took up sailing in my 50s. I spent most of my professional career as a research scientist, toiling away in a windowless laboratory. Prior to sailing, my major diversion from work was hiking and backpacking. I enjoy all things nautical and astronomical, including celestial navigation. I am familiar with navigation and the operation and installation of electronic, mechanical and electrical equipment commonly used on cruising boats. I have no set plans, other than living in the moment and sailing as much as possible. My wife and I lived on our boat for two summers in Olympia, WA and for four summers in San Diego. We moved our boat from San Diego to La Paz in 2020 and lived aboard our boat in La Paz for three winters. We sold our vessel in 2023, because of that great sailing-life killer - grandkids. My wife is finished with sailing, however, I would like to continue ocean sailing via crew opportunities.

I have owned and maintained two cruising boats, a Pearson 38 and an Island Packet 32, as well as several trailer sailors. I always learn something new when I crew on other people's boats, making me a better sailor. Plus, I like to be out on the ocean, discussing the meaning of life with new people. I have taken on crew on my boat when I moved my vessel from San Diego to La Paz and from La Paz up and across the Sea of Cortez to San Carlos. I have also served as crew on other people's boats on passages from San Diego to the Channel Islands, from La Paz to Puerto Vallarta , from Wanchese NC to St Augustine FL and on the bash from Cabo to Ensenada. As a result, I understand the challenges of co-existing in a small, confined space, the need for flexibility in all aspects of life on board and the responsibilities of captain and crew.
