I first bought a yacht to circumnavigate the world 18 years ago but then my partner got pregnant which interrupted life quite a bit. Our son is now grown up and headed for university so I plan to restart the adventure but without my partner this time, which is why I need a crew. I'm 78, but very lucky in that I am still fit, compos mentis, and healthy, though not as strong as I used to be, hence I would prefer a younger, stronger crew for the muscly bits. I'm happy to accept men, women or couples and am LGBTQ friendly as long as it’s not "in your face".
I was a fighter/attack pilot in the Air Force then a commercial B747 captain, and am able to apply my professional airmanship to seamanship as they are not dissimilar. I've been sailing off and on for much of my life but gained most of my experience sailing from Taiwan to the Andeman Islands and back to Phuket in Thailand, before selling my yacht to be, somewhat unexpectantly, a full time father at the age of 59.
You don't need to be experienced (though that helps) as I can teach you. Just don't be susceptible to seasickness, and be able to do as you are told when necessary.
I am intending to embark myself and crew in September this year, after packing my son off to university and in time to get myself and crew used to the boat prior to an Atlantic crossing during November to January - after the hurricane season. To work up and get used to each other we may potter around the Mediterranean between August and November if time permits.
The yacht I have bought (and need to get used to) is a new Excess 11 with 3 cabins and 2 heads, so the maximum crew is 6 but I’d prefer 4 or 5.
As regards expenses, I will pay for all boat related bills but I think it's fair that you contribute proportionately to food, visas, canal charges (if any) etc.
I look forward to hearing from you.
