Dear Shipmates

Introduction

Thank you all who applied. It looks like the position is filled. We will re-post when another position opens up.

We are seeking a deckhand/mate/asst engineer to join our 90ft catamaran in light charter for a long term position. This is a paid position. We are a kid boat and have kids on board a lot so the crew should like and get along with kids. He should be a good sailor able to stand watches and happy to responsibly maintain the exterior of the vessel in excellent working order and pristine condition.

Shared room with female Stew/Sous chef.

Must have Yachtmaster and STCW. AEC a bonus.

If you are looking develop a career in the engineering department on board yachts this is a great opportunity to apprentice with a Captain Scott who loves to share his knowledge and teach. Expect to be pushed to grow your knowledge base and confidence, learn to trouble shoot, make repairs, hands on.

Also, please- This is a NO SMOKING and NO DRINKING boat.

Thank you for your interest and I hope you'll read on...

We sail a powerful 90ft catamaran and often need help. Your main duties will be watch keeping, and general boat duties. We consider it an honor to be able to sail such a boat. We seek crew who feel the same way. This boat is perfect for mile building or MCA time. We are happy to write sea time letters for both deck or engineering depending on what position is worked. During our days in port we all work on the boat, to keep her well maintained, while at sea we share all duties and watchkeeping.

About the boat, the plans, and current crew

The boat is a high class 90ft catamaran sailing machine. 250 plus mile days are common. The main mast is 35 meters, and the rig is high tech and very large and powerful. Sailing means thinking ahead and this is one of the main things we look for in crew. We carry three life rafts, lots of other safety gear, the boat has water tight bulkheads throughout.

We are a long term sailing couple, RYA Ocean, 200,000 sea miles, 25 years in the industry. Recently helped set the UIM round the world speed boat record. We are easy going, happy to share our knowledge, consider each day an adventure, spontaneous, active and enjoy life. We don't watch tv, listen to loud music, drink a lot or smoke. Hard drive movies on the large screen TV are okay in the evenings. We eat a plant based diet a majority of the time.

What is expected of the crew

The crew should come ready to sail. During docking, sailing and all boat handeling we expect the crew to pitch in. We won't ask you to do anything outside your skill range, but expect to be pushed to increase your skill level. I constantly walk around asking "what does that line do? Where is the emergency winch shut down button? What is the safe route out of the anchorage? Who has the right of way? etc" I hope the crew will enjoy increasing their knowledge base. We all have something to teach.

Please be prepared to clean up after yourself, look after your own meals at times, respect others privacy and space.

This is a non-drinking, non-smoking, very mellow boat. Reading is better than watching TV, we don't play loud music and we often use headphones if we want to listen to music or radio programs. Occasionally crew will have a single drink after dinner, but NEVER while underway and we don't allow crew to return to the boat intoxicated. We don't allow private drinking in your stateroom. Sorry, but after 25 years steady sailing we are very strict with safety at all times.

We have a SSB and sat phone for communication while at sea. There is no Internet while at sea, but the boat is normally WIFI connected while in port.

Be prepared to cover your transport to and from the boat. We eat simply, mostly plant based. We enjoy practicing yoga.

Over the years we have crew turn into awesome teams and long term friends with many return visits.
