The boat is a fun, very well-traveled, Damien II, designed and built in France for Antarctic expeditions. Sturdily built in steel, with a staysail schooner rig. Lots of different sails to keep sailing interesting. Deep draft when sailing (3.2m / 10.5' draft), with a lifting keel to allow getting into shallow places and exploring uncharted areas.
I have over 80,000 miles of sailing experience, including several ocean crossings and a circumnavigation of the Americas (Antarctica, Northwest Passage) in this boat. I give presentations about voyaging, and I make videos about sailing (Premium Members can see a link to my youtube videos). I may make a video about this trip, so photography or video experience is of interest, and if you sail on my boat, it is possible that you will be in a video, or be asked to help with filming.
People describe me as calm, cool, collected, friendly and easy to get along with.
Everyone who has sailed with me says they learned a lot.
The boat has a chartplotter, radar, depthsounder, VHF, AIS receiver, radar detector, NAVTEX receiver, weatherfax, windvane.
The layout belowdecks is basic, minimal refrigeration, no watermaker, but there is both a diesel heater and a wood heater (used in port), and a gas (propane) stove for cooking. There are foot pumps for fresh and salt water. Hot water comes from heating the kettle on the stove. The boat is well setup for extended expeditions to remote areas, and has done a lot of that.
