Dear Shipmates

Introduction

I am from Canada, and Maddalena is from Italy.. she is fluent in Italian, Spanish, and very good English.. I can generally troubleshoot and fix most anything (diesel, electrical, plumbing, etc), and and for many years offered adventure charters and courses onboard for individuals and couples that wanted to learn first hand the sailing and liveaboard lifestyle. Maddalena is a professional chef by trade, having spent her past few years running restaurants in Italy, Panama, and Mexico.

Ideally, we would potentially like to find a mid-to-long-term couple for extended travels that is already experienced and can help with all aspects of life aboard including maintenance, repairs, sailing, cooking, cleaning, navigating, doing watches, etc. We typically invite crew aboard for a shorter starting period to assess compatibility onboard, and can then discuss further from there if things are good for all involved. During this starting period, crew would be expected to contribute to the costs of having them onboard, including food, drinks, immigration fees, etc.

If you are not experienced and want to learn, we offer courses on shorter excursions and then can determine if there is compatibility for a longer term stay as crew for more extended travels.

About the boat, the plans, and current crew

We are currently at Isla San Andres, Colombia, with our 2-year old son, Riccardo Jr, onboard. Obviously this will have effect on what crew we sail with, so if you love kids, keep reading! :)

I've personally been living onboard full time for over 18 years and can't even imagine going back to a land-based life. The boat is very open and airy, and as you can see in the salon photo, I love my plants and grow everything from Aloe to herbs... have over 20 plants onboard, so if you have a green thumb I'm sure you will find an enjoyable hobby in helping care for them!

I have my own editing studio onboard where I make sailing/travel videos of all our experiences for our Youtube audience that has grown to over 95,000,000 viewers this year. We earn our money to keep traveling with our sailing channel on Youtube, so hopefully you aren't camera shy or you might not like it here.. :)

My favorite thing is to venture into the heart of new places and find locals to interview that can tell stories of the past and the culture... that is the best part about making travel videos, learning about the places we visit and the people we meet.

We have all new Mantus Marine compact dive gear onboard, and a brand new Mantus electric dive compressor. We also aim to sharpen our free-diving skills for spearfishing and catching our dinner, so if you are a free-diving instructor we'll have something else to talk about!

The past few years have been spent converting and upgrading the boat to be fully self-sufficient for sustainable long-term travel. She has 3.2Kw of solar installed that satisfies all electrical needs with no need of having to run an engine or generator. The galley is fully electric with dual induction cooktops, new microwave, convection oven, Instapot, breadmaker, and has all the amenities of home, including a brand new solar-powered seawater desalinator. In addition, there is a household-type Reverse Osmosis purifier for consumable water that completely negates the need for purchasing bottled water in single-use plastics from shore.

What is expected of the crew

Having someone onboard able to help out with cooking cleaning and nanny in exchange for room and board would be a great help, and I'm sure they'll reap many benefits from the time we spend traveling. If we can find a couple with long-term potential that between them can help with all aspects of maintenance, cleaning, sailing etc then even better! For those interested in filming/camera work, I can certainly help teach some basics to practice from, and even some editing skills if desired.

Scuba diving would be an asset if you enjoy, and some sailing experience and desire to explore the world by sea would be perfect! I have over 100,000 miles of sailing logged so far, and the only real disadvantage I've found myself in was language... and next on our list is Panama to get ready for the Pacific, before hopefully sailing on to French Polynesia if things are finally starting to return to normal!

PS... Even if you are only a closet smoker you will not be happy here... I can't live with people that smoke, even if you go outside, the smell of smoke on your person will be enough to flare my allergy... so please feel free to find a boat where smoking is welcome. :)

Cheers,
CaptainRick & Maddy
