Dear Shipmates

Introduction

Hi,
Why would you want me to crew on your boat:
- I am very dependable.
- I'd say I have above average communication skills, I don't easily get upset and I work to find a solution instead of a culprit.
- I'm a positive person. I chose to see "the glass half full".
- I am respectful, flexible and I easily get along with everyone.
- I'm eager to learn.

----->
Offshore sailing experience:
-> Apr 2022:
3100nn Pacific crossing - Mazatlán (Mex) to Nuku Hiva (French Polynesia) > 2010 Allures 45

-> Mar 2020:
1500nm - USVI -> St-Martin -> Bermuda (transatlantic safety escape ---> Covid-19) > 2019 Leopard 45

-> Oct 2018:
1400nm - New York / Miami > 2013 Jeanneau 53

-> Sept 2016:
1500nm - New York / Miami > 2013 Jeanneau 53

Club regattas:
100+ "beer can" races - Montréal - Mirage 24

I've also crewed on the St-Lawrence River East of Québec City. Very challenging, and rewarding, waters. Whales & belugas 🐋

----->
In the last few years, I've been able to find great sailors, here on Findacrew as well as around my hometown, to crew / sail in fantastic places!

I have manual skills. In 2004, I built a 24' plywood/epoxy power catamaran. A boat I used to operate a scuba charter company.

----->
Part of what captain Edward wrote about me:
Strong, full of will he evolved from being a novice to an excellent reliable efficient crew in only 3 weeks.
We sailed immediately after the Hurricane from Georgia to Miami with large waves, with rolling breakers the first day and Jean seemed to enjoy them and complied with all his shifts and more, always keeping everything neat and sorted out in spite of the wild movement of the boat.
I completely recommend JS to any kind of sailing adventure.

I can provide recommendations.

Because I have time, I intend on traveling a lot for the next few years.
My first choice is to find a boat to crew on + meeting a nice group of people also interested in sailing/traveling. If I don't find this boat/nice people, I'll take my backpack again and, on my next adventure, I plan to visit more of India (I visited Rajasthan in 2020) and/or South East Asia.

- I'm easy to get along with + I like to stay positive.
- I'll eat anything that's put in front of me.
- I love to learn / fast learner :)
- I'm not one to panic and won't be losing my composure.
- I like to cook but , by no means am I a chef :)
- I am not afraid of heights (I used to sport climb).
- I practiced a paddling sport, "dragon boat", at a very high level. My teammates and I became World Champions in 2018 (500 metres - Senior A - 40 years old+). Dragon boat is ALL about TEAMWORK.
- I am an intellectual who loves sports.
- On the extrovert / introvert scale, I'd say I lean on the introvert side. To illustrate this, I'd say that when I am in a large group my "batteries" slowly discharge. I recharge them when doing more solitary activities like reading.
- I think I'm a very well adapted/adaptable person :)
- I rarely get seasick. In all the time I've spent on boats, I've been seasick once.
- I don't smoke, I don't take drugs and, when I drink, I drink socially.
- I do not take mental health meds (read -> no mental ilness diagnosis)
- My present passeport is valid until 2025

My motivation and reasons to crew on a boat

share experiencevisit remote placesseek adventurefulfill a dreamface challengesgain experiencelearn to sailsustainable traveltravel

I was probably 10 when I saw a TV documentary on Eric Tabarly, a famous French sailor. Ever since, crossing oceans and exploring foreign coasts has been on top of my bucket list...
Crewing allows me to realize a part of that dream.
