Dear Shipmates,I am one of the lucky individuals who has had the good fortune and opportunity to make a life and living from my passion, the sea and boats thereon. I have sailed some 350,000 nmls over the last 73 years.
This expeience makes me very self reliant but I miss the companionship of a friend/partner/ helping out with a second pair of hands and to share those special moments with.
Current QTH is in my old home town and cruising hub of the South Pacific, Whangarei where I am completing winter maintenance and will be underway in the coming southern summer for a circumnavigation of NZ. With the help of a partner on board,cruising the Pacific Islands for 6 months in every sailing season would also be a option. Although I am planning the next voyage/adventure, I am still missing the company of a compatible like minded female shipmate to share some of the joy that goes with this wonderful life style.

I have noted on reviewing the profiles of many FAC hopefuls reveals very limited experience, often only involving a few weeks on a charter yacht or holiday. Experience is not a prerequisite, I want company and a helping hand, the experience will come by osmosis with every day spent onboard. Be aware that full time cruising as a lifestyle is not easy, it is hard work and for the more prudish, full of awkward privations. The typical ‘are we having fun today’ mantra on a 2 week tropical charter in the sun needs to be left at home. More often it is the ‘what am I doing here ‘ mantra that is being chanted. The reality of the work involved in finding those special moments and untouched parts of the world finds many hopefuls seriously lacking in the determination and grit required. A 6 month successful cruise is inversely proportional to the amount of effort expended on work on boat maintenance , planning and provisioning during the previous off season ( winter ). If you find a boat that is ready to go, remember someone else has already done the work , or you hope so. If not you could find yourself very compromised by a vessel that is always getting into trouble. It’s not so much about the on-deck sailing skills, it is more about living in a very confined space in what can be very trying conditions, if you are not experienced in such, with a comparative stranger who you now may not like.
My vessel is one of the finest long distance ocean voyaging vessels 15 mtres or under, in the world today. She is designed, built and equipped for both benign tropical or boisterous southern ocean conditions and takes both in her stride. She is truly a floating home happy in any environment. This makes the world her oyster, she only has to be pointed in the right direction.
The secrete to successful voyage is not only the boat, that is a given in this case. It is the compatibility of the crew that determines the success of the final outcome.
