I sail my own yacht but also have worked as a professional delivery skipper with Australian and International Captain and Enginering qualifications. My experience with Findacrew began while sailing my yacht a 58ft ketch westward across the Pacific from Mexico in 2010 with stops at the Marqueasas, Tahiti, French Polynesia, Cook Islands, Niue, Tonga, Fiji, Vanuatu to Australian and the Great Barrier Reef on the way. Hi everyone hope you're well! I sailed around the Pacific as a child with my family and to be doing it again now is fabulous! The yacht is an American design, Australian crewed, British Registered ship, she is my 9th boat. I hold commercial maritime qualifications Yacht Master 200T, Master Class 5, MED 2 marine engineer. With teaching college also as a back ground much can be learned by crew who pay attention and ask questions! I also sailed around the western Pacific in my mid 20s and worked as a windsurfing instructor. We had seasons in Tahiti and 2 also in Fiji, running backpacker style sailing tuition tours. This boat is a large ocean going ketch with full safety gear; Liferaft, EPIRBs, Radar, Sonar, Sat Radios etc etc. A crew of 4 or 5 suit the boat, snorkelling, Surfing, fishing, yoga and BBQs etc. Nature, clean air and water with healthy living lifestyle is important to us aboard. We also enjoy the odd sundowner at sunset though! Ocean conservation is a passion! We will not be rushed like some boats and may have to wait for the right weather window to come along before we depart or at any stage along the voyage. This method is far safer, more enjoyable and promotes harmony and happiness aboard. If you're a stress head with a strict timetable, flights booked that can't be changed etc you need not apply. Light duties at anytime around 2 hours per day. 2-3 hours watch each night while on passage. All crew to help with cooking and cleaning at meal times if required. If you want to ask questions there will be much to learn. Eating basic healthy food is cheap! We all chip in at the beginning for a big food shop.
