I have my Yachtmaster 200 tons with IYT (MCA recognized) and my USCG 100 ton license. STCW and IYT International Crew certified. (Retired) PADI Scuba diving instructor (and emergency first response instructor), Wilderness First Responder (certified to deal with medical emergencies in remote locations), and an ex professional underwater photographer (have had a few pictures published in travel magazines and as postcards). I've done a few boat deliveries acting both as skipper and/or crew. I drove many boats for scuba diving companies. I drove a 186 freighter around Alaska delivering freight. I've driven water taxis around the bays in Alaska. I started my own fishing charter in Homer, Alaska and have since sold it.
I have been a diver for 22 years, a PADI scuba diving instructor (MSDT) for 11 of those years. I can teach a variety of specialtes as well as Emergency First Response. I pretty much grew up on a powerboat, so I'm well familiar and comfortable on powerboats. I have worked on sailboats, so I feel at ease with sailing as well.
Born and raised in Fort Lauderdale, graduated from Florida State University with a degree in criminology and criminal justice. I decided I wanted to see the world and started traveling.
I left the states in 2005 and traveled/lived/worked all of the world before coming to Alaska in 2014 and laying down some roots. I have a lot of experience working on a variety of boat and living on primitive islands with not many luxuries.
I am currently residing in Alaska where I am self employed. I run a dog daycare/dog boarding/rescue/and foster farm. I absolutely love animals and being surrounded by them, but don't worry - they won't be coming with me. I have staff that will be running my business while I follow my sea dreams. I still drive boats and have my own boat in Alaska.
Ben owns a fishing charter company in Homer, Alaska that operates May - September. Our Alaskan lifestyle is one where we live off grid on 15 acres on farm with goats, chickens, ducks, cats, and dogs - lots of dogs. We fish and hunt for a lot of our food and we're trying out our green thumb.
