Dear Shipmates

Introduction

My name is Rafa, and I’m from Mexico. I’m genuinely excited about the possibility of joining your crew. My enthusiasm for sailing began about a year ago when I worked as deep-sea fishing crew on a fishing vessel in New Zealand. Since then, I’ve been captivated by the world of sailing and am eager to make my first ocean crossing through the Pacific.

I’m traveling with my girlfriend, Sara, who is from Spain. Together, we’ve embraced a minimalist lifestyle, having lived in a van for the past year while exploring new places. Sara is an experienced cook and a teacher for young children with special educational needs; she holds a degree and a master’s in the field. She’s also incredibly resourceful and adaptable, having worked in various environments from classrooms to kitchens.

We both share a deep passion for travel, the sea, and exploring the unknown. Over the years, we've developed a strong ability to work together as a team, whether it's on land or at sea. We’re flexible, enthusiastic, reliable, and quick to learn new skills.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you need a dedicated and dynamic crew for your boat. We’re ready to take on the challenges and joys of life at sea.

Best regards!

My name is Rafa, and I'm from Mexico. I had the opportunity to work for two months on a fishing vessel called Otakou, a fresh fish boat operated by Sealord in New Zealand. During my time on board, I took on various roles, including Crew, Deckhand, and Galleyhand. My primary responsibilities included deploying the net, lifting hatches, filling the hold, organizing and unloading the catch, and mooring the boat at the port. I was also involved in daily cleaning and maintenance tasks.

My girlfriend, Sara, is a teacher with a broad range of skills. She has worked as a cook, waitress, caregiver, nanny, and has four years of experience as a teacher for children with special educational needs. She holds a degree in teaching and a master's in educational guidance.

Together, we worked in New Zealand in various jobs such as picking kiwis and cherries. We are accustomed to long working hours and are comfortable living a minimalist lifestyle, having spent over six months living in a van. We are both enthusiastic, optimistic, and always eager to learn new things. We're incredibly excited about the possibility of joining your crew.

My motivation and reasons to crew on a boat

Our main reasons for wanting to join your crew are to support with essential tasks aboard and to gain invaluable experience that will help us eventually navigate our own vessel. We are deeply interested in cultural exchanges, embracing new challenges, and exploring alternative lifestyles. We thrive on discovering and trying new things and are committed to continuous learning. Being part of your team would not only allow us to contribute our skills and enthusiasm but also immerse ourselves in the maritime world, which aligns perfectly with our passion for adventure and growth.
