Hello!
My name is Francesca and I've been bound to the water ever since I could remember. I've spent a decent amount of my childhood competitively racing Optis, 420's, and Lasers. As I grew older, the boats got bigger. I spend most summers racing a Beneteau 36.7 on the raging seas of the Great Lake Michigan. In addition to this, I spent 4 years as the head instructor and operations manager of the South Shore Yacht Club Sailing School. Although I love competition and teaching, I absolutely thrive in a cruising lifestyle. From 2022-2023 I began cruising as a First Mate through the Mediterranean, across the Atlantic, through the Caribbean and up the coast of the United States! My passion on these ventures center around navigation and the inner workings of the boat--so it's easy to say I adore learning from every captain I've set sail with. Aside from my love of the water, I am an enthusiastic biologist. My eyes often find themselves curious about the organisms both in the sea or the lands the boat reaches. During the 2023 summer season, I spent my time as a First Mate on the Neeskay Research Vessel, assisting on a multitude of projects from grad students, professors, and federal conservation efforts.
Aside from my sailing experience I’d like to attest to my optimism and malleability when it comes to interacting with others. I not only like to be forward and communicative with my crewmates, but have developed a strong appreciation for the ups and downs that always come with being in an enclosed space. Through self reflection and growth I have found I can make healthy bonds with my crew, ultimately leading to the strongest team.
Hope to see you on the water!
