Hello, I am a 45 yr old married male who relocated to the Grand Strand/Myrtle Beach area in South Carolina (25 min north of Georgetown) about 18 months ago. I grew up canoeing on the creeks of Western Pennsylvania, and have always been drawn to the water, be it for fishing, paddle boarding, or anything else that gets me off of land. Luckily for me, our move to coastal SC has opened the door to realizing my life-long dream of learning to sail. I have completed the ASA 101 (basic keelboat), ASA 103 (Basic Coastal Cruising), ASA 104 (Bareboat Cruising), and ASA 118 (Docking Certification) over the last year. I also am a member of a local sailing club, which provides opportunities to crew on other members’ boats every other weekend for club races and cruises.
I have recently returned from my third offshore voyage this year, on which I have served as a member of four or three person crews and have been responsible for day and night watches each day on all three voyages. One from Charleston, SC to Annapolis on a 38 ft monohull via the Atlantic Ocean and Chesapeake Bay, from Grand Ábaco Island, Bahamas direct to Florida on a 40ft Catamaran, and from Annapolis to Bar Harbor, ME on a 38 ft monohull via the Chesapeake and Delaware Bays before going all off shore from Cape May to Maine.
I have thoroughly enjoyed these experiences and am excited to get back out on the open water again!
