Dear Shipmates

Introduction

I am a lifelong sailor and sailboat owner with a USCG OUPV captain’s license, and an officer in U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary (Flotilla Vice Commander, Flotilla 5-3, D1NR). I am looking for opportunities to sail aboard types of vessels that I haven’t sailed before, namely boats of 60+ feet LOA, multihulls, and especially schooners and yawl/ketch rigged sailing yachts.

I am a very chill person to be with and an exceptionally hard worker. I’m a consummate DIY’er and very handy with tools and repairs, as well as willing and able to do straight-up grunt work. I frequently change between wearing a sharp Italian designer blazer and pair of beat-to-hell Carhartt dungarees. In addition to the hard physical work I do living on a mountain in the woods of rural New England, I work out with my personal trainer religiously three times a week, and I am very strong and well conditioned.

I’ve been on sailboats since birth and actively sailing since age 13. I love nautical culture, being at sea, and all kinds of boats. I’m a noncompetitive person, and I work really well in groups as a team member and a leader. However, please do no contact me regarding racing crew positions it’s a long distance ocean race and you’re in it just for the voyage and don’t care how you place in the race. I have done all the yacht racing I ever want to do in my life, which is a lot. As a sailor I am very competent and safety conscious, and I prioritize safe practices in keeping with my training in the Coast Guard Auxiliary.

I am well travelled and financially independent. I’m a very committed family man; my wife and I have two kids, a 13-year-old son and an 18-year-old daughter. Presently my job so to speak is writing fantastically weird novels. Formerly I had careers in journalism and public health. I was also a volunteer firefighter for many years. Recently I worked as a licensed home inspector, mainly for fun and because I’m interested in houses. I love reading, especially history, and I am also big into art. I have a keen interest in science as well.

To me sailing is not a hobby but a serious passion in my life. I am willing to invest in and work hard towards realizing my life’s sailing goals.

My motivation and reasons to crew on a boat

share experiencegain experience

Nearly all my sailing experience has been aboard sloop-rigged yachts 30 to 55 feet in length. I would really like to spend some time on big yachts and handle different kinds of rigs. My dream boat, I think, would be a schooner. But I haven’t sailed one before and I want to try it out. I also really just want to get aboard and sail many different yachts of all vintages. I would be a great charter crew member or skipper for you as well. I’m very chatty and friendly and my cooking is very, very good—so I’ m told, and I prefer my own cooking over most restaurants, so I cook at least one meal for my family every day.
