I am PADI open-water scuba certified. I windsurf, paddle board, snorkel, kayak, basically, I love anything on the water. (not much experience fishing, but I am willing to give it a shot!)
I can't play any musical instruments, but am happy to sing along. I am a good listener. I also love to tell stories and make people laugh.
My kids are all grown up and I'm looking to spread my wings and launch into the next leg of this journey that is life. When I look out at the water and see the boats bobbing on their moorings something in me shouts, yes, that is where I am meant to be, so, here I am, a smile on my face, excitement bubbling in my chest. I have done a lot of introspection over the years and am even-tempered, intelligent and kind. I'm a writer and a life coach. I love to laugh, and do it often. In the past I was a teacher, owned my own business with my husband, and did marketing and PR.
BACKGROUND/SAILING EXPERIENCE:I learned to sail when I was 9 years old. Since then I have sailed and raced boats all over the world. During the summer I sail and race a C-Scow (20’, flat-bottomed, single sail) and a Sunfish. I also teach small boat sailing.
I did two sailboat deliveries, and three other recent sailboat trips. The deliveries were from Fort Lauderdale to St. Thomas and from Fort Lauderdale to Nassau. I took the helm on both trips, and did a lot of the navigation on the second trip (using a handheld WW II compass and an ancient GPS, and some 20 year old charts - not by choice, I found all this out after we set off-and learned the hard way to check all of that beforehand!) I’m capable of using modern navigation equipment as well :)
In December 2022 I sailed off the coast of Puerto Rico on a Beneteau 40'. Jan 2023 I did a 13 day trip on a 102' schooner (purple tall ship pictured) from Martinique to St. Vincent/the Grenadines and back. April 2023 I helped sail a 38' Beneteau from Roatan to Utila, Honduras, then did the 20 hour passage to Guatemala and sailed up the river to Rio Dulce. Once at the marina in Rio Dulce I helped get the boat ready for the off-season.
I sailed for 4 days in the Bay of Islands, NZ. We did a lot of tacking! (We were in a race, but not competitively.)
