To a potential fellow traveller abroad,

Hello!

My name is Brogan, South African born and raised! Like most South African stereotypes, I love people, work hard, have a good sense of humour, love the outdoors and enjoy great food (with the odd beer or glass of wine). We are a tough multicultural country which automatically makes us interesting and charismatic people that can handle a lot of challenges that life throws at us. I speak English and Afrikaans ('the broken Dutch') and trying to learn Spanish.

A little about myself, I am an outdoors person at heart, always up for an adventure, creative with clean 'OCD' tendencies, yet versatile, social, and a natural optimist with a constant curiosity for ‘what-lies-beyond-my-local-shores’. I am a hard worker, enthusiastic and always keen to learn.

I am interested in just short trips for now (holiday and leave permitting) with my partner who has his 40 nautical miles skippers license, together we have done plenty of deep-sea fishing as a recreational hobby back home! As such, I have an appreciation for nature, good cuisine, and quality hospitality (although this is never an imperative in life) and I am a socially and culturally conscious individual.

My outdoor interests include (but are not limited to) trail running in order to be healthy in body and mind. I love the ocean too, through all of its offerings; fishing, spear fishing, swimming, surfing, supping, diving, snorkeling or simply floating!

My indoor interests include reading books as often as possible, cooking, the creation of a ceramic and pottery studio, which I started for like-minded creatives in my spare time. I love to paint when I can, I enjoy photography and travelling out of the City whenever I am able.

I am basically a super relaxed but super organised (is it possible to be both?) South African who is up for any activity or adventure!

Reasons for Travelling and why you would enjoy me as a crew member...

Since working a desk job for several years, I have managed to pay off student debt by juggling multiple jobs. I now live and work in Melbourne, Australia on a skills visa. This has taught me how to hustle, work hard and see any task through but it has also spurred on my urge to travel the world more (since I have not been able until now).

As such, I am trying to squeeze in some travels, wherever possible, until I can travel for longer durations at a time - whether that includes contributing physically or financially on a boat or simply sailing for leisure and fun- I am open to either. I am eager to learn and observe from any experienced sailor in the process.

I am willing to work and express my gratitude enthusiastically where required. I learn fast and am never afraid of getting my hands dirty. I love to cook and get great pleasure out of cooking for others. I believe food is the best form of communication across cultures and language barriers (together with good music).
