Dear Shipmates

Introduction

Greetings fellow sea lovers,
I am Deborah.
I’ve spent the past 35 years banking experiences of relationships and adventures all around the world. Life is a collection of memories therefore I don’t value things, money, materials--only moments.

My motto in life is GATHER NO MOSS--to keep learning, growing, transforming, and moving across physical and cultural landscapes. A nomad from a Saharan tribe once said "homes are the tombs of the living" and I could not agree more. My world feels stagnant when in one place for too long--I am much more comfortable in homes that move.

A little about myself, my interests and my plans

For me, jobs have always served the purpose of allowing a lifestyle of travel, adventure and freedom. Over the decades I’ve worked as a waitress, bartender, housekeeper, ski instructor, ski lift builder, house painter, gardener, organic farmer, set dresser, prop assistant, air bnb stylist/host, photojournalist assistant, map maker,
yacht stew/deckhand. Seasonal jobs, gigs, projects, freelance--as long as the job allows plenty of free time outdoors I am happy.

At university I studied geography and ethnobotany. I have a profound love and respect for our environment and believe strongly in the stewardship of this planet. My longest lasting love is rock climbing. We’ve been together 35 years and counting but lately sailing became a new competitor.

Currently I am a graduate student of traditional Chinese medicine and will be a licensed acupuncturist by the end of 2026. My plan is to practice on the move whether at wellness/yoga retreats worldwide, from my mobile sprinter van clinic or at sea while crewing on passages. I'm looking forward to returning to my nomadic ways after this three year program confined to a cold northern city. If you are still sailing at the end of 2026 perhaps our paths will cross.
Until then, fair winds my friends.

My motivation and reasons to crew on a boat

My ultimate dream? One day get my own boat and load it with my closest friends, climbing gear and sail around the world scaling sea cliffs. But for now I’ll hitch-hike on your boat. The thing I'm really good at is trading in the currency of relationships--you and I get along, then a mutually beneficial trade is made. You supply the boat and I'll trade boat duties (and/or acupuncture) for a passage.

Over the past ten years it has worked really well. I’ve volunteer crewed from Panama to Galapagos, island hopped in the Bahamas and Philippines and have worked professionally aboard yachts in Key West, Florida and Seal harbor, Maine. And the best thing that came from it all are the new friends I've made and continue to keep in touch with-- such a unique and special subculture to be a part of.

I’m looking for both paid and leisure positions but more importantly I’m seeking adventure in remote and beautiful places before time runs out. Life is wild and short and I’m here to make the best of it.
