Dear Shipmates

Introduction

I've been sailing for over half a century. I lived in Europe for about a decade and sailed the Bay of Biscay during that time. I've sailed most of the East Coast of the US, the San Juan Islands in the Pacific NorthWest, all the great lakes except Superior. I want to sail the North Channel one day. I've just finished two Atlantic crossings which were amazing!

My boat is on the Chesapeake and I'm currently working on her fixing all the bits that need redoing after a year at sea. I would like to find folks that love to sail as once done with the work (is it ever done?) I would like to do trips in the Chesapeake and then North up the East coast. I really love Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. Time will tell where the winds take me.

The boat is a 1984 Bellure 41. She went through a major refit before the Atlantic crossings. She has two cabins, a fore and aft cabin with two heads. For a 40 year old boat, she sails very well. On the crossings I averaged somewhere in the 6 knot range. She is cutter rigged and all sails are furling.

I run a LiFePo house battery system, have a solar panel that keeps the batteries charged, mostly. She is a very well found boat and well equipped. I had a crew join once that had just come off a 55 foot boat and when entering my main saloon asked me how big I'd said my boat was? Because it felt larger than the 55 footer she just came off. The raised deck house gives wonderful light and visibility, providing a wonderful feeling of spaciousness.

I've been a sailor for over half a century. I've just finished up two trans-Atlantic crossings. I've work to do on my boat before she is ready to sail again. Ocean crossings are hard on boats. I'm hoping to have the work done later this summer but one never knows until it's done. I will be looking for crew to join me sailing as I find it much more enjoyable to sail with crew than to sail by myself.

I will be looking initially for shorter sails in the Chesapeake Bay. If my boat gets ready in time this year, I may do a longer off-shore sail perhaps to Maine, perhaps to the Canadian Maritimes. Time will tell.
