Dear Shipmates

Introduction

Hi! In January 2025 I am planning to gradually go west from St Kitts where the boat is at the moment, to Guatemala. I have an extra cabin and would not mind some company who would be willing to share some expenses. The idea is to go slowly with lots of stops on all the islands on the way, including Porto Rico, Cuba etc. Generally the atmosphere is very relaxed, with swimming, snorkeling, rowing around in the kayak or lying reading in the hammock. In the evenings maybe a glass of wine and cooking aboard or visiting a restaurant ashore. But every few days there is a bit of excitement when the anchor is lifted and we sail to a new unexplored bay!

About the boat, the plans, and current crew

usually cleancomfortablevery safeshare experience

I'm a semi-retired maths lecturer, I sometimes have to mark a few assignments, but mostly not! So I sail a few months every year, otherwise I'm on my farm in Africa or backpacking somewhere.
The boat is a mini-expedition aluminium sloop. She is equally comfortable sailing through ice, going up rivers in South America or just chilling in the Caribbean. (There might be a bit of projection here!) She has more than 10 opening hatches and portlights, so always nice and breezy.
My brother was often with me, but they recently had a baby, so apart from when the occasional friend visits, there is extra space these days for anyone who is easy-going, likes to meet new people and would be willing to contribute somewhat to the running cost of the boat.

What is expected of the crew

clean & tidyeasy-goingfriendlysense of humorcan pay own expenseswill not bring a friendwill not bring a pet

The most important thing is to be friendly and relaxed. No problem if you don't have many sailing skills - this is something you quickly pick up and I like showing friends and guest how things work. There is not a lot of work on the boat, she is simple with good quality equipment and finishes, but there is the occasional chore, cooking or washing up, and things to do while sailing. These we share - and actually all these are fun as well!
