Dear Shipmates

Introduction

Hello! I am preparing to cast off on a new journey. I started sailing in 2017 and fell in love with it. I knew that after retirement I would set off to explore the globe for fun instead of work…my job has taken me around the world three times, without the opportunity to stop and smell the flowers. Retirement is very near (Feb 2024), and after that I’ll cast off on a new life journey. I have no set agenda or itinerary. My goal is to enjoy each new place until a new destination is set…I don’t know where; I don’t know how long; I don’t know who. I just know that I love sailing and I’m taking off. For the last year I’ve been training to do everything solo, but honestly it’s more fun with company. So here I am…

I don’t want to sound boring, but coming from a career in military aviation, safety is number one with me. There are many parallels between aviation and sailing that I’m able to take advantage of…mainly, always taking off and landing safely. I always wear a PFD on the ocean, and I clip in at night and in rough seas. So let’s enjoy getting around this world safely 😊.

The yacht is a 1992 Island Packet 44 (which is actually 51' LOA) that has been meticulously maintained. She is off-grid capable, with 1500 watts of solar as well as wind power. She has two private cabins, two heads, and a full galley. Island Packets are known for their ruggedness and capability as world cruisers.

After hurricane season I’ll be heading south to FL, and then crossing the Gulf Stream to the Bahamas and onward. Not yet sure if I’ll come back to the Northeast U.S. next June (Atlantic hurricane season) or keep moving toward Central America.

What is expected of the crew

I’m very easy going and I really like having a great time with everything I do. I would like to have crew members who share a desire to always be safe, while always trying to find enjoyment in whatever is going on. You can have tons of experience and teach me some things, or have very little experience and continue to learn and grow along the way. Please just bring the best attitude.
