Dear Shipmates

Introduction

After an epic journey from Canada, down the Pacific West coast into Mexico, to French Polynesia, Suwarrow, Samoa, Fiji, NZ, back to Fiji in June, on to Vanuatu, PNG and arrived in the Philippines January 2020. Sailed to Thailand in April 2021 and then in Langkawi, Malaysia as I needed to repower. Back to Thailand in December and off to Africa via Maldives. Tanzania, Zanzibar, Kenya, Tanzania, South Africa, and now in Brazil for the season and off to Suriname end of September, Trinidad and Cuba from here. We’ll see.

This is a smaller size vessel and quite alive on the big ocean so ocean sailing experience and an adventurous spirit will go a long way if you apply for crewing. If you're a smoker, or unfit then this is not the boat for you.

You got to be able to hold a discussion with the smartass captain. If you are a hobby musician, that would go a long way too as I am always looking for musician partners despite being a lousy musician myself by all standards. Lots of instruments travel with the boat.

My boat life is simple. I enjoy leisure time, reading, writing, playing music, snorkelling, scuba, hiking when possible, biking, chatting the day away with cruising friends. I am not a party animal and I am not a social media addict. I like my life more PURE

The yacht is a 31 ft Hallberg Rassy Monsun. A small, but very seaworthy cruising boat. The yacht has received complete new standing rigging and chainplates in May 2017 and some other improvements. Feel free to ask any specific technical or equipment questions you may have. There is a life raft on board, an Iridium Go satellite unit for weather retrieval and text and email communication at sea. There is also VHF, SSB with a Pactor modem and an Ocean1 PLB for emergency backup.
After an unfortunate early failure of my old engine I have just repowered the boat with a new engine.
The galley is equipped with a ENO propane stove and oven and there is a BBQ on the pushpit. There is an arch with 400 W of solar power and the boat has 400 Ah LifePo4 house battery power. There is a 40 l fridge. There is a natures head composting toilet but usually it’s bucket or direct deposit. No hot water heater or onboard shower. Its standard seawater bucket rinses with an occasional cockpit shower in a squall. The main sail (new in 2019) has three reef points and the ew (2024) headsail is on a furler. There is a backup furler headsail and the boat also has a solent stay for hoisting a stormsail and a 90% hank-on headsail. The asymmetrical spinnaker new in 2022 is on a harken reflex top down furler for easy deployment and retrieval.
There is an electrical windlass and 275 ft of new 5/16 anchor chain with a new large Rocna main anchor and 2 backup anchors as well as a stern anchor.
I have so far enjoyed a 8 year journey from the BC(Canada) across three oceans to now Brazil for >50,000 km, mostly singlehanded, partially with crew.

My boat is too small for 3 or 4 to sail and live in comfort so I'd say one crew max only. Means I am NOT interested in hiring a team as crew. But I have done so when I had a really good vibe. It sure could NEVER happen without meeting in person. So don’t waste your or my time with that. My boat is on the small size for that and the dynamics of a team with solo skipper is often problematic. So sorry, thats a NO for teams and exceptions only if I have the change to meet in person with prospective crew.

If possible at all I'd like to meet crew before committing to a crew position but this at times is difficult so I am willing to do due diligence via chat, email for solo crew .... and try to get a feel that way ...

This is a 100% NON-SMOKING and NO DRUGS boat. NO EXCEPTIONS and not negotiable.

You can't be a flat earther, anti science, right wing supremacist, chronically depressed, drug addict. You can be spiritual but I do not enjoy hanging out with religious folks. I just don't enjoy that kind of energy and/or company. Just being honest here. I try to be as environmentally conscious as possible, limiting garbage whenever I can and expect the same from crew. Respect for nature is very high on my list.
