Dear Shipmates

Introduction

The historic Colin Archer sailing vessel was built in Risor, Norway in 1897 as a pilot / rescue boat. She was operated out of Mandal, Norway until 1929. After that she was sold, received an engine and was used as a fishing boat for the next 30 years. Following a major restoration in the late 1960's, she continued her journey as a sailing vessel again.
Over the years, she passed trough a number of different ownerships and was purchased by the current "custodian" in the Summer of 2017, on the Ile de Noirmoutier, in France.
After sailing locally and exploring the beautiful coast of Bretagne, she departed France in the Summer of 2020, to sail to her new home, Brooklin, Maine USA.
The journey took her to England, Ireland, Scotland and on to the Faroe islands, where she is currently berthed.
Due to unforseen circumstances (called LIFE) she has spent the last few years in Torshavn, FO and is now getting readied to continue her sail, along the ancient Viking Route, in the Spring of 2025.
Leaving the Faroe Islands in late April early May, she will call ports in Iceland, Greenland, Labrador, Newfoundland and Nova Scotia and will end her trip in beautiful Brooklin, ME sometime in late August 2025.

About the boat, the plans, and current crew

usually cleancomfortablevery safelive on little moneyshare experiencevisit remote placesseek adventurefulfill a dreamlearn a languagelive off the grid

The boat is a vintage vessel, that is kept as close as feasible in a historically authentic condition, representative of a Colin Archer pilot boat from 1897.
This requires her crew to enjoy that kind of sailing adventure (comparable to "camping" on the Ocean) and be adaptable to the somewhat "spartan" living conditions on board.
There are no "cabins" and no below deck shower. The sleeping berth have curtains and offer a hint of privacy. The faucet in the galley (kitchen) is hand pump operated and any warm or hot water has to be heated on the alcohol fueled stove. There is a small head (toilet) with not much head room, but it does offer an actual enclosure!
Due to the somewhat confined quarters below deck and the need to be quite agile for the tasks on deck, the crew needs to be in good physical condition and have good balance and motor skills!

We are looking for easy going, friendly, open minded and uncomplicated people that will enhance the safety and experience on board and make this sailing trip the experience of a lifetime for the whole crew!
