Hello, I am Enrico, 29 yo, from Italy.
I am taking a gap year and I started my sailing journey with no previous experience.
I was lucky enough to join 3 different boats that brought me from mainland Europe to Caribe:
- boat 1: from Barcellona to Canary Islands.
- boat 2: from Canary Islands to Cabo Verde.
- boat 3: from Cabo Verde to Caribe (Barbados)
I enjoyed so much the experience and learned a lot in the process.

Now I will be travelling in Central America for some months and then will consider again sailing (across Central/South America) and eventually join another boat for the crossing back to Europe around May.

I come originally from Torino (Italy) but have been living abroad for most of my adult life. I speak fluently Italian, English, Spanish and average French. Currently, I am taking a gap year (or more?) to travel in Central/South America after getting a PhD in physics. I love any type of outdoor and activity in wild nature: starting from alpinism and wild camping in remote areas to more recently scuba diving and free diving (and recently sailing...). People usually describe me as a very easy-going person, and a good listener. I enjoy very much to hear stories from different people, and to share mine. I am also very used to share my living space with many other people. I like to put myself in situations of discomfort, where I can learn something new about the world and about myself, growing in the process.

I have sailed in the past months from mainland Europe (Barcelona) to Caribe (Barbados) with 3 different boats, two monohulls and a catamaran. These were my first sailing experiences, and I think I got hooked for the rest of my life :)
Every boat was different and I learned a lot in the process.
Now I have experience with hoisting and changing sails, knots, anchoring, basic maneuvers (jibing, tacking, heaving to..), night watches, navigation, cleaning the hull, fishing...
But still, there is so much yet to learn.
Also, I never got seasick (so far..). And I do enjoy the hectic experience of cooking when the boat is moving :)
Some years ago I have been working on a sailboat-B&B in which my duties were cooking for guests-crew and do some boat maintenance while in the ports (cleaning the sails, painting, repairing the dingy..).
