Hi, I'm Leena, an adventurous, healthy, sports-loving woman, who took up sailing 2 years ago and developed a serious passion for it. I am now a RYA Day Skipper, VHF licenced, with a Competent crew background and solid understanding of sailing theory, actively progressing towards becoming a Yachtmaster and qualified as OOW. At present I am looking for professional positions as a Skipper, Watch Keeper, Deckhand and Delivery crew. I have sailing experience in the Florida Keys, English Channel, Aegean, Atlantic and Mediterranean Sea. Skilled in:
• Passage planning. Navigation. Experienced in using charts, transits and fixes, calculating distances, bearings, ET, CTS, navigating around rocks in strong tides and bad weather, calculating depth at any hour and the impact of tide and wind at any hour. Maintaining regular logs.
• Weather forecasting.
• Comprehensive understanding of anti-collision regulations and the appropriate actions to take in any situation to avoid collision. Experienced with crossing busy channels such as the Gibraltar Straight and the English Channel.
• Night-watching, understanding all lights and sound signals. Experienced with long hours of night watching in the English Channel and Gibraltar Strait, where there are several ships channels.
• Comfortable with both IALA & IALB buoyage, shapes, ensign etiquette.
• Helming in all weather conditions for long hours, making decisions on tacking, gybing and sails trimming.
• Trimming sails for any point of sail. Calculating VMG, true wind, apparent wind.
• Handling lines fast and neatly.
• Performing engine checks, health and safety checks, water and fuel sourcing, briefings.
• Monitoring strictly fire hazards and health and safety regulations.
• Knowledge of emergency signals, equipment and procedures.
