Dear Shipmates

Introduction

Experienced cruising sailor, about 55,000 miles in the past thirty one years. I move slowly, and stop to enjoy the people and places I visit. Not a dreamer hoping to get off the dock one of these years. I am currently land cruising and hiking while my NZ visa clock resets.

I strongly prefer the company of women. I'm not necessarily looking for a relationship, but am open. I've sailed with crew through this site that have been both friends and more. There isn't a lot of space, but there are separate berths. My Myers Briggs is INFJ, unusual for a guy. Much more likely to be reading a book than watching sports. Prefer small social gatherings to loud parties and clubs. Not a loud American, more the soft spoken intellectual.

I'm not setting a current destination because I am open to what seems appropriate. I have lots of experience in the Pacific and would do another swing through some of the beautiful spots I've visited and see some of those I've missed. If the right crew is aboard I'd love to sail through SE Asia, down to S Africa with a stop in Madagascar and then up to the Med. That would be quite a trip, one I've prepared for for years. It wouldn't be a sprint though, there are too many bucket list stops along the way.

This is an opportunity to learn the ropes and test yourself. I have taken on inexperienced crew in the past as my references indicate, they have all enjoyed the time aboard and remain friends. If you have a sea bag full of miles I'm sure you'll find this an opportunity to hone your skills.

This is a boat without strong pink or blue roles. I usually do the engine and head work, but if you want to learn I will offer pointers from planning to clean up. Then again if you have new tricks to teach, I'm always open to learning.

No yelling, and respect are watchwords. The rule of the boat is the more conservative approach is best. If you are scarred how can you feel safe and have fun?

The yacht is a pointy old boat, which makes for a small space. It also makes for a boat easily handled by a small crew in all conditions. A sister-ship was the first boat to be single-handed by a woman in the '76 OSTAR. Every effort is made toward safe, comfortable passages. Maintained in constantly updated, better than new condition. She is small enough that there is really only room for two on passage, sorry no teams.

We carry a kayak and dive gear for exploring once we arrive. I'm all about getting to know a place and it's people and culture. Not sprinting, enjoying the journey.

The nudity question is new and in this case relevant. The shower is in the cockpit, so there is that bit of daily nudity, though I would never consider it a time to be watching.

I enjoy big tasty bites of this adventure called life. I tend strongly toward the liberal side. Decided a long time ago that quality far outweighs quantity, and that the quality of my time is the most important thing to me. I enjoy a glass of wine occasionally, but not daily and there is no hard liquor aboard. If you prefer a totally alcohol free boat that's fine with me too. Never any drinking on passage.

The boat is maintained in a picked up state at (almost) all times. I keep things put away, and the space is kept neat and clean. I do my part here, not looking for a maid, but I do expect you to do your part. Offshore we maintain a 24 hour watch schedule, and half of that will be your responsibility.

Some sailing experience is desired. Desire to learn, and a love for the sea, and the cruising life counts for plenty of experience points though. I've taught and learned from each of my crewmates. Departure will be with the end of hurricane season in May 2024. If you're new to sailing I'd want to spend as much time as possible after January 2024 learning and getting to know each other. More experienced crew is also welcome to spend some time. We'll be in the Northland area of New Zealand for that time.

My finances will cover the expenses of the trip. What you may bring to that part of the picture would be to cover your individual expenses ashore.
