Greetings,
My name is David.
I've been cruising the Pacific Northwest extensively since 2015. I started out cruising a Hobie 16 from my home on Vashon Island to the San Juan Islands. The following year I upgraded to a Bristol 33, which has proven to be perfect for our NW inland waters. She has beautiful lines, goes to weather like she means it, and a wood stove makes winter sailing a treat.
Looking forward I would like to sail further afield. After a lot of deliberation I settled on a Cape George 36. This is a very comfortable, very capable long distance cruiser. She's in great overall shape, but it is time for a re-rig, so probably won't be cruising her until summer.
I may cruise my Bristol between the San Juans and Desolation Sound for a while from Mid-January through February. It can be a cold time of year for sailing, but it's entirely do-able with the right gear. Best of all, there will be thousands of beautiful anchorages full of wildlife, massive snow-capped mountains, hot springs, and zero people. Winter sailing leaves lots of down time for hiking, snowshoeing, making art, playing music, reading, knitting, and such. Supposedly Pendrell Sound is 74 degree F in winter, so I may have to jump in in January...
This summer I'm planning to circumnavigate Vancouver Island, then take off for Baja or the Marquesas in autumn.
I like to do a lot of hiking around, cooking tasty things, and meeting new people. Lately I invested in a warmer wetsuit and am having a lot of fun snorkeling and free diving. Other pursuits include dancing, industrial design, woodworking, rollerblading, biycycle touring, backpacking, sewing, and playing keyboards. I'm a highly creative person, and love meeting up with like-minded people .
I've met a lot of wonderful crew and skipppers through findacrew and other similar venues. It's so nice to do a trip when everyone aboard wants to be there more than anything.
