The yacht is now in South Carolina at her home base . Continuing the refit work until then off to Bahamas and beyond.

Update: Back in the water now for a couple of months. We plan to sail the short trip to St Helena Island in early September. A dock and workshop are under construction for her there. This will provide her long term base for support and the captain's land house in the US for visits from afar. Let's go!

Now to be clear, not all the project started during the refit are completed. Boats! But I am ready to go. Work will thus have to continue while cruising but all key systems will be completed beforehand.

The ongoing opportunities are quite varied and depend somewhat on the whims of the crew. You could consider joining now and for helping with the refit. You could also join for a trip to the Bahamas in December or more extended winter Caribbean adventure. In spring next year we may cross the Atlantic to the Med or take the canal into the Pacific. Being on this yacht is a lifestyle of adventure and not strictly about reaching a specific destination on a specific schedule. As the time is further out, the route we take is more of a sketch.

The yacht is a 64' performance cutter made to sail well. She's strongly built and like a ship, ABS certified. She has an aluminum alloy hull with three watertight sections, current safety gear,. Most importantly she is a real sailboat, not a loaded up tub that can't get going when the wind is light. She's an honest and comfortable little sailing ship. An enclosed pilothouse makes standing watch comfortable in all conditions. All modern electronics recently upgraded. All electric galley, washer dryer, central heat and AC. There are two double and one single cabin and a pilot berth in the saloon plus large cockpit settees and two other setees for cozy sleeping on any tack. We typically sail with 3-6 crew aboard for long distances. There are two heads with one electric and a second soon to be. We comfortably carry 6 for long passages. Good sterk so bring your favorite tunes. We try to send out good vibes, but she sails like a witch! Despite being made of metal, she is light and caries a full set of sails. Her record 24 hours is 277 nm. Can we beat that?

The past five years have seen only coastal sailing during an extensive refit. In 2018, we sailed 6 months up from Uruguay to Charleston, SC through the windward islands and Bahamas. The captain has sailed, cruised and raced sailboats all his life. He received a (now expired) US Coast Guard 50 Ton Master's license with sailing endorsement and all oceans. He also has held a private airplane pilot's license (not current. He’s been a sailing instructor and Hobie skipper way back when but now learning kite surfing. His university sailing team was US national champs. He’s raced big boats, crossed the Pacific twice in a 40 footer double-handed and was deckhand on a 144' tall ship one summer studying whales. He’s a certified whale hugger with a BS in marine biology and oceanography. A Scuba diver. A bit of a computer nerd/techie, DIY kind of guy. Adventurer and friend. Free spirit open to all. Just looking for reliable friendly crew excited about sailing, freedom, the beauty of the sea and the cruising life. Life is an adventure. Let's do it and live it. This is not a highly regimented boat, but safety is first. No alcohol underway so we are ready and alert. This also makes celebrating landfall (or drinks at anchor) more fun for those who wish to partake.

You need to want to chip in and help with cooking, cleaning and standing watch. That means reefing sails and log keeping. Mainly looking out for ships in the wee hours of the night when you really, really (seriously I mean it) really want to be asleep. You will enjoy learning new stuff, having fun and trying not be a drag (though we all are sometimes). You will have plenty of your own space and time without great demands otherwise.
