.gday. an update, I arrived back in Guatemala from Spain mid December I will be here in the Rio Dulce Guatemala for a while as I refurbish the boat
I would very much like one or two Crew/ companions to join me and assist.
Detailed plans and destinations will be decided later but I am definitely open to suggestions, currently looking at panama to Australia.
Ultimately I am looking for a longer term crew. I want to make a long voyage without changing crew every few weeks .
i have been a member/user of findacrew for more than 10 years, many of my crew have come from this source and I have crossed the Pacific three times and the Atlantic 11 times with these crew aboard, never having any problems.
I don't need you to be particularly experienced, but enthusiasm, ability to get along and be physically fit are important.
The boat is a Rafiki 37 cutter, well equipped and comfortable.

The yacht is a Rafiki 37, 28hp diesel engine, GPS, AIS, VHF, fridge, solar panels,, tiller steering, and most safety and sailing accessories although some are due for replacement, refurbishing.
I bought this boat as a wreck in January 2016, rebuilt it and sailed it to Europe and back in 2017, 2019 and,2024 .six Atlantic crossings
The interior was completely gutted and rebuilt in plywood. This is not a luxury vessel. This is a low budget strong seaworthy boat.
I tend towards longer passages and enjoy being at sea.
My plans are a little vague as I tend to stay in places I like longer and move away from those I don't.
I live aboard so have no time or location constraints..
While I would like to find a longer term cruising sailor or two.I often take crew for passage making and can provide contacts for references. I,m sorry I cant afford "paid" crew or to support you, I might be able to feed you!!
I am a retired Australian soldier, I am a very experienced sailor, I have been sailing since the mid 70's have lived aboard continually since 1984 and left Australia on this trip in 1994.
I have been based in the Caribbean since 1996 but have crossed Pacific 3 times,, 11 trans Atlantic's and many thousands of cruising miles since then.
I am very flexible regarding sailing destinations, if you can suggest somewhere interesting I,m easily influenced!!

I would like you to be fit and adventurous, I like ocean passages and would call myself a voyager rather than a cruiser, so you must be prepared to cross oceans. I would like my crew to pay for your own personal expenses, ie. food, immigration fees etc.for the right person I can help out, but I,m not Bill Gates !!!!. I believe your expenses would be less than $10 US per day. depends on your eating?drinking habits I guess. Boat expenses are mine.
I have sailed single-handed for many years so inexperience is not a problem, I would however like you to learn and become a valuable member of the crew. I am quite happy to teach and am not a Captain Bligh. Painting, dirty work and broken fingernails, cold, wet, possibly sleepless nights are to be expected!!. along with tropical sunsets, dolphins, warm tropical nights, you know, the stuff dreams are made of.......
Vaquero is an easy boat to sail, so if you don't know how to sail, you'll soon learn, and if you do know then you'll enjoy.
I am DEFINITELY not into drug users!!!!!
Most of all I want someone to share the cruising lifestyle.
I would prefer the crew position to be relatively long term, not just a short passage. In the past I have always been able to find crew for Trans Atlantic or Pacific crossings, but because of time constraints, work, family, or whatever, most have to leave the boat before the next leg or ongoing voyage.
I believe in sharing all duties as you gain experience, must admit my cooking, while wholesome, can become a bit repetitive... not much imagination,
Main aim, is to sail to new far away places and have FUN!!!!
