Ahoy skippers,
My name is Thijs and I am a Dutchy from the city of Amsterdam. I've been on and around the water my whole life and I have plenty (recreational) sailing experience, on different kinds of ships as well as in different regions. The last couple of years I've been mostly sailing on vessels in the 30 to 40 foot range between Denmark and France, but I've also sailed smaller and larger ships mostly in the North Sea area and Mediterranean.
Currently I'm looking for a (preferably) transatlantic adventure and I am available for a (couple of) month(s).
I am an energetic and easy going person. Besides that I am respectful but direct, as us Dutch people are known for, but which is a good way of communicating abord a ship in my opinion.
While onboard (besides sailing and other responsibilities) I like to read, play games, listen to music and discuss everything and anything about all kind of topics.

Overall I would describe myself as an outdoor kind of guy who doesn't take life too seriously (except when it comes to safety of course ;). I've been practically brought up on the water since my parents have always owned boats and used them extensively. When I was younger I've sailed competitively in single- and double-handed dinghies such as Lasers, Splashes/Flashes and 29-ers. Besides that I still compete in the yearly GrevelingenCup (biggest all winter sailing competition of the BeNeLux) and events such as the 24-hours race and local Regattas with my dad and siblings. Since I was lucky enough to have boat-owners as parents, I was able to spend my summers cruising up and down the European coast with friends for about a month to six weeks at a time. During these periods that I borrowed my parents ships (Winner 9.50 and Hanse 400e) I would act as captain/skipper of the ship and gained a lot of experience. Besides that I made some trips in and around Denmark and Greece and Croatia in the Med. and recently participated in the Race of the Classics.

Although our shared love of sailing brought us together on this platform, now a little more about me outside of sailing. As mentioned above I'm an outdoor guy and I love to walk, run, hike, cycle, ski and set some challenges for myself concerning these activities. In that sense I've climbed the Toubkal (highest peak in North Africa), rowed the Ringvaart Regatta (100k rowing competition) and cycled several etappes over 100k.
And after these activities, when you come home satisfied and rosy from the sun, I just like to enjoy life. I like to cook and consume good and fresh food and enjoy it with a beer or glass of wine and some good company.

Other hobbies of mine are reading, cooking, photography, watching movies, listening to music and solving puzzles and riddles. I also like to have discussions about everything and anything as I am a really curious and observative person and I like to know why and how things work in a certain way. This doesn't mean that I will challenge the captains orders since I know how important a well functioning crew is.

Currently I am working as a consultant in the pharmaceutical industry and I have a background in the life sciences. This means that I work on a project basis and therefore I have a certain degree of freedom in planning my next adventure!

As mentioned above, I like to be outdoors, I have plenty of (recreational) sailing experience and I like to set some challenges. Therefore, I would love to do an ocean passage voyage or other voyage for a longer period of time but unfortunately I don't own a boat (yet). My motivation to crew on a boat is to get some more blue water cruising experience, meet new and exciting people, and share an amazing adventure together.
