Howdy!
My fiancé Colin and I have been saving up for a few years to quit our jobs and travel the world, and we'll be ready to set sail in January 2023! Our goal is to get South America sometime in the spring, and we would love to pick up a boat leaving from the States if possible, so we can minimize flights and carbon-based travel. We've sailed before and love the simplicity, adventure, and beauty we experienced aboard! :)
In August 2020 we spent two weeks on a Morgan 383 monohull blue water sailing from Beaufort, North Carolina to Solomon's Island, Maryland. During the rise of hurricane season, we were 50 miles off shore when tropical cyclone Kyle formed around us, before NOAA had detected it, in the magnetic anomaly zone east of Cape Hatteras. So we're no strangers to foul weather sailing - it was an incredibly profound experience. We'll also be getting our ASA 101 certification in September 2022 in Annapolis.
Tasks performed aboard our first cruise:
- general deckhand responsibilities (tacking, jibing, hoisting/lowering/reefing sails, assisting with docking & anchoring, securing lines, keeping cockpit organized and safe, oiling teak, scouting horizon in heavily trafficked areas, manning the helm, assisting with navigation, etc.)
-took watches
-assisted captain with changing oil and diesel filters, other boat maintenance
-cooked delicious and nutritious meals
-kept galley, cabins, and bathroom clean and tidy
-assisted with random tasks requested by captain as required at sea
-provided songs, stories, general positive outlook :)
We would be happy to perform and conform to the lifestyle of the captain on board, as well as take watches throughout the night. This was our first taste of the cruising life, and we can't wait to experience it more.
