64 year old man looking for sailing experience. I owned a small day sailor many years ago. Would love to crew on any boat. I am hard working and a pretty easy going guy. I am a retired teacher, willing to care for children if needed. I have an advanced PADI scuba rating, but have not dived in several years. I love camping, hiking, backpacking for my off water adventures. I have thru hiked the Appalachian Trail twice, and have traveled extensively. love to read, especially science fiction.
My sailing experience is limited, with no sailing last year due to covid. I have assisted with moving a 56 ft ketch from Norfolk Va to NYC in spring 2018, and then assisted in bringing it from Stamford, Ct to NYC and on to Washington DC in the fall of 2018. My trips included solo night watches while offshore, and I also was on a solo watch at the helm as we went into the Chesapeake Bay and up the Potomac River (motoring up the river).
In the summer of 2021 I took a one week trip on the Chesapeake Bay on Grey Fox, an Alajuela 38 . We got in some good sailing, all during the day. Steering via tiller on a boat that size was a different experience.
In November of 2021 I traveled to Kemah Tx to help move Tranquility, and Irwin 37 CC ketch towards Florida. Due to conditions, we did not get to sail, instead motoring into the wind. We did parts of the Gulf ICW, and also were in the Gulf of Mexico for about 50 nm. I learned how to helm a boat under tow, as we had engine issues and had to get a tow in from he gulf to Lake Charles, where I left the boat.
In January and February of 2022 I sailed on an Irwin 37 down the Caloosahatchie river to the gulf of Mexico where we explored for two weeks, then back. First time going through a lock as crew.
In May of 2022 I bought a 30 ft. Gemini 3000 sailing catamaran. I may be looking for crew myself soon.
