Dear Shipmates

Introduction

Hello, I'm Jon! I am an experienced blue water sailor and have recently purchased my next boat. My partner Sophie and I plan on spending the next couple of years upgrading the boat with some extended cruising a few years from now as we semi-retire. Currently moving the boat from Key Largo to Oriental NC late March for haul out, then North to East Hampton in June with cruising plans to Maine later in the summer. We will move the boat south again in October.
We'd love to have somewhat experienced passage crew for longer trips of up to a week to ten days. My partner is still working full time, and so will likely not be aboard for passages longer than 3 or 4 days.

About the boat, the plans, and current crew

The boat is a custom built cruising boat, built on a Cal 46 hull and custom fit out by the amazing craftsman Erik Vader. First launched in 2004, it has been lightly used in recent years. I am currently fine tuning, upgrading and clearing up some deferred maintenance to prepare for the trip north. For the next few years, the boat will be in Long Island and Maine during the summer, Keys and Bahamas in winter. The boat is well equipped, and seaworthy with a simple sloop rig. She'll likely not set any speed records, but should make safe and comfortable passages.

What is expected of the crew

clean & tidyeasy-goingenthusiasticfriendlyrespectfulpolitepositive outlookcan follow orderswill not bring a petharmony

Boats, even large ones are generally cozy spaces. As my grandfather used to tell me when I was younger, "That boat is going to get a foot shorter every day you're on passage..." Looking for drama free courteous crew that can function in the best interests of the vessel and their fellow shipmates in order to make the experience of offshore passages safe and enjoyable for everyone aboard. The end of a successful passage should wrap up with handshakes and hugs and a promise to do it again soon.
