Introduction
Hey everybody, I'm John- I'm a pretty easygoing guy with an itch for adventure ideally looking for a trans-oceanic passage in the south pacific. That's been a bucket list item of mine for as long as I can remember and I see no sense in postponing it. I have two years small-boat sailing experience with the local sailing club but I'm really looking to step up my blue water time. In the past, that itch has led me across the Appalachian Trail, working with horses, and to Antarctica. I know (almost) all the boat terminology and basic sailing mechanics but am excited to apply them to larger ships and am eager to learn more. I know basic orienteering but not much about nautical navigation. I am a jack-of-all-trades Eagle Scout type. I can operate on-board HAM radios, offer WFR first aid, take instruction gracfully and can offer my skills as a cook.

I'd call my archetype the artist- I'm a skilled painter, a mean cook, a comedy writer, and on again off again stand-up comedian. I'm also nifty with a camera and guitar. I have a place in Hawaii that I've really made my own and come to love but I can't shake the idea that it's tying me down to one point when there's a planet to explore. I've volunteered with an archeological society in Virginia and my time in Hawaii has taught me a lot about pre-colonial navigation. I've been very fascinated by the Polynesian sailors and the story of Pit Cairn in particular and would love to see it for myself.

I'm low-key troubled by the ongoing threat of ecological and nuclear disasters in my lifetime and would love to get to know the ocean while it's still blue. I would also really love to be able to catch the South Pacific sailing season to go from New Zealand to Hawaii (preferably on one ship but I wouldn't mind hitch hiking between marinas)
