I am a long distance hiker, backpacker and sometimes vanlifer and motorcycle-camper. I am travelling with about 25lbs (60L) of gear.

I've renovated some homes and always worked on my own vehicles. I've done periodic maintenance and diagnosed and repaired some sailboat problems such as Perkins 4.236, hydraulic steering, marine toilet. I am the type of person to read the shop manuals and do it myself. I'm gentle on equipment.

I am an independent person but I work well in a team environment. I can take orders and I do not participate in interpersonal drama. Polite, professional and prepared to prevail over any potential problem. My previous work is mostly in the military and police environment from which I am now retired. As such I am experienced in fast-paced, high-consequence environment, but I prefer a laid-back and safety-conscious vibe now.

I am in NZ until early April 2024 hiking the "Te Aroroa" trail, running 3000km along the length of New Zealand.

I speak enough Spanish to survive and I am keen to improve so anyone who speaks Spanish or French (or wishes to practice English) would be a great match.

My marine experience is one trip from Puerto Rico to Florida via the DR and Bahamas which was a mix of motor and sail including some sailboat problems, a few lessons on a Sunfish, leisure swimming, fresh water fishing, snorkeling, scuba diving, kayaking and many week-long canoe trips (sailed those a little too). I've surfed but it's not something I do competently or regularly, though I'd like to improve.

I usually prepare basic meal. I can cook if there's a recipe. Given the choice in the galley, I prefer to wash the dishes!

I am comfortable getting through the surf and leisure swimming, but I won't be doing an Ironman anytime soon. After reading "The Beach" I realized that I'm going to miss out on parts of life if I don't improve myself here.

I enjoy a couple drinks socially (as in, two) but I don't enjoy any more. Everything in moderation - I don't do debauchery. In an environment where some level of danger is always present I maintain the ability to respond appropriately at all times.
