Dear Shipmates

Introduction

Hi all !
Are you enthusiastic about nature, marine-conservation, always in a good mood, a great team player, not afraid of the humiliating beauty of the lonely far north, the warming sun of the south and love something very special?

… then read on 😊 ...

I am Peter from Germany, about 50years of sailing experience. In daily life working as ophthalmologist and run a private eye clinic. In addition, as founder of an NGO, I am committed to the visual and learning opportunities of children in underdeveloped worldregions and actively involved in environmental protection.
In the past five years, our travels have taken us twice to Scotland, around England and twice to the melting ice of the Spitsbergen Arctic. Now our bow will point south.

But even on our course from Kappeln on the Baltic Sea fjord Schlei to La Coruna on the Spanish Atlantic coast, we want to avoid the typical tourist magnets and, as always, visit rather the quiet, the lesser-known places.
The course will lead through dreamy Dutch inland waterways, through the English Channel, extensively explore Brittany and the coasts of the Bay of Biscay and end in La Coruna for the time being.

Sailing is always an adventure. But unlike our previous trips, this year we want to take us more time to discover the small destinations on the outskirts. So it will be more cruising, less ice-suitable survival suit and more t-shirt sailing as an armed polar bear expedition 😊
Even on this trip we will also continue our scientific work, taking microplastic and plankton samples, cleaning the coastline, doing interviews and filming. We are also planning to observe and hydrophone the orca families on the Spanish north coast (and hope to avoid an attack 😉). At times Journalists and scientists will also be part of our crew.
But in addition to dedicated sailing, stunning nature and our marine conservation project > above all it will be a trip with lots of fun being together, to have a super good time !

The boat:

Our Boat is a very save 78ft aluminum schooner. A one off, build to be sailed in high latitudes. Very well equipped, efficient and easy to sail and a very good performer. Offering great safety and comfort at sea.

Although we logged thousands of miles, the boat is always neat, very well kept and everything is in absolutely new condition.

As an eye surgeon, safety is always my top priority. And that's the way I do it when I go sailing. The yacht is fitted out with latest electronics and safety equipment and everything is in top working order.

The deck saloon allows a 360° all-round view, even from galley and navigation. The cockpit is well protected. The yacht offers 3 spacious double (two of them with single beds) with en-suite bathrooms and one single cabin. (Means there is space to retreat once in a while.)

The plan:

The ocean is a powerful and amazing part of nature. Wild and unpredictable. And at the same time severely affected by the influence of pollution and global warming.
We want to enjoy the freedom of sailing, gazing into a sky full of stars, enjoying the scenery of famous port town, waking up in beautiful anchorages, enjoying scenic landscapes, watching seabirds, dolphins and whales, test the different cuisines of the coastal countries, go on excursions inland.
And besides everything we just want to enjoy the incredibly beautiful nature that surrounds us together, share the impressions and have fun together.
I would be happy if you would accompany us and use your skills, your team spirit and your empathy and enthusiasm for nature to make our project a success!

Never hesitate to contact me, if you would like to join us.

Skipper and current crew:

I´ve more than 50years of sailing experience. But the sea teaches me never to stop learning…
I´m happy to share my knowledge and experiences. On the other hand, always interested in other people and opinions. Everything I do, I do with my heart.
I'm open minded, serious, in the same time like to take it easy, a good conversationalist with a distinctliy sense of humor. Financially secure, safe, sane, non smoker, drug free including mental meds, only social drinker (never while sailing).
I'm not one to panic, consequently I won't be losing my composure. Nor do I tolerate that type of behavior. No bossy types on board…

For me, mutual respect and sensitivity to a group dynamic are keys to safety and fun at sea. Our sailing course, weather and the navigational tasks are discussed together. Maneuvers are (if possible) planned in good time and the functions assigned. Crew members are involved in all decisions. But, there is only one skipper 😉.

Important that we have a good laugh every day, to enjoy some music and have fun and excitement! Very important that each crew member takes hers/his responsibility and takes safety very serious. In all waters it is vital that we can rely on one another and treat one another with respect, care and consideration.

If you are looking for a harmonic combination of work, fun, friendly environment, sharing the stories, happy places, smart, kind and patient people to create a good team, to build our life around a joint project and marvellous and strong boat, you should join us 😊

We are looking for people who like nature, sea life, good food, new experiences, curious about everything and of course people who are motivated to sail. Happyness and great sense of humor are more than welcome. A good atmosphere on board should be essential for you and you should be actively involved in shaping it.
You should be physically, and mental fit, not scared of wind and waves, a safe person that will not hurt herself, others or the equipment and young at heard. Don´t mind the work that has to be done to take care of the boat so she is always in good shape, clean and neat, to keep us out of trouble.

We are serious when it comes to safety, but besides that we like it easy going, to have fun, having a glass of wine at the end of a long day and telling stories with new friends. This means we expect you to have a positive attitude, to enjoy life, open-minded and definitely respectful and responsible. Social skills are much more important to us then your sailing experience.

If you know how to cook, are a writer, a photographer, a musician or a keen dronepilot, you gain extra points!

And for sure, we are happy to find crew with sailing, navigation and all other experience what´s important to travel in partwise uncharted regions.

To enable our project work, we take a fixed contribution of €80,00 per day (including diesel), and additional shared costs for food on board and marina fee (if possible anchorage). Crew pay own transportation.

If you can't pay the full amount, but do think you could support our project with your special skills, we are not dogmatic about the money. Please ask in advance.

Join us as a sailing enthusiast, nature-loving, happy, thoughtful and responsible member of our crew.
