Update: November 2024. My boat is on the hard for the winter. I'm available to crew boats somewhere warmer.
Update: September 2024: Finally brought my boat to IPYC. The trip down the St.Lawrence Seaway was uneventful ;-) Travelling single-handed (except for the seaway locks) was nice.
Update: Aug 2023: I joined the IPYC (Ile Perrot Yacht Club). Good news: It's only 30 min. from home. Bad news: Lake St.Louis is tiny compared to Lake Ontario. Also crewed boat through Welland Canal and then from Lake Ontario to Montreal. Yacht Club reciprocity is great. Visited Brockville YC and Stormont YC. Nice people ;-)
Update: Oct 2022: Having a boat that is 3.5 hrs away is a problem. I'm looking for a location closer to home...
Update: July 2022. The boat is in the water and the repairs to the bow are done. Next step is to mount the sails and take her out...
Update Apr 2022. The boat is going back in the water May 1st. This is the start of another sailing season. Hopefully I'll get the repairs done and go sailing before the snow comes back ;-)
Update: Nov 2021. I crewed on a beautiful Pacific Seacraft that was being moved south. We sailed from Halifax to Bermuda. While the boat and crew were great, the weather was not ;-( The 5 day passage became 8 days.
I am 69 and would like to help crew your boat. I recently helped to deliver boats from Lake Erie (via Welland Canal) & Lake Ontario (via St.Lawrence Seaway) to Montreal. I have both ICW and off-shore experience. I would be a useful and conscientious addition to your crew.
I've repaired my little catamaran and have been out on the local lake a few times this summer. Now it's stored inside while I take care of my new/old Bristol 27.
Other misc. info: Currently self-employed as IT consultant; ex-Scout Leader (when my kids were younger). I also volunteer at a local bike clinic, where we teach people how to repair their own bikes. (Teach someone to fish...)
Take care
