The boat is an Open 60, which was later extended by 6 feet to compete in the Australian offshore racing series.
We did a big refit in Fiji in 2020-2022, modifying the interior to make cabins, a spacious galley and saloon, a heads with a bath, workshop and more.
Our above deck modifications involve adding a bowsprit to fly our 6 gennakers further forward, adding a third stay to our 27m carbon mast to give us a wider sail range and to add some flashy racing colours to our hull and deck.
We're currently in Kota Kinabalu in Malaysian Borneo where we are staying until Feb as we are expecting a new baby here in Jan! After this a very rough plan for 2025 is...
Feb - March: Sail to the Philippines
April - June: Cruise around Raja Ampat
July: Sail down to Lombok
August: Prepare to cross the Indian Ocean
September - December: Sail to South Africa probably via Maritius (route still tbc)
2026 will probably look something like
South Africa -> St Helena -> Brazil -> Caribbean -> Mediterranean
As is to be expected with sailing, things can change all the time...
This is a really big and exciting project for us and we'd welcome anyone that wants to be part of it. No experience necessary, just a willingness to participate in everything involved in life onboard from sailing to cleaning.
Timo has a lifetime experience living and working aboard boats, so is a wealth of knowledge for anyone wanting to learn anything and everything about boats, from sailing (he's worked as an instructor for many years) to fibreglassing & vacuum bagging techniques!
I (Jo) have been sailing for the last 12 or so years, including having my own little boat which I sailed offshore.
For anyone interested to buy their own boat in the future, this is a good opportunity to learn from our experience :)
