Dear Shipmates

Introduction

The dream to see the world at 7knts has finally come to fruition. The 55' stout Bruce Roberts (fiberglass) cutter is our ship, and after a nearly 2-yr full refit in San Diego, she is equipped and ready for some serious cruising (air conditioning, water-makers, stand up showers... super comfy, and safe). We'll be between La Paz and Puerto Vallarta until March/April of 2020, then looking for weather windows to cross the Pacific and land in French Polynesia.

We are brothers. Oldest and youngest of 3 siblings. We are single males with no strings. Mike/Captain spent the past 20+ years wearing a tie and building a career in San Francisco. Chris/Chief Mate spent the past 15+ years in San Diego doing similar. Our previous lives didn't bring the desired life fulfillment, and with adventurous hearts, we were driven to explore. We were able to save enough to cover the boat and all the costs, so there's no expectation for out of pocket costs (from crew) when it comes to provisioning, fixing, etc the boat. We love to cook and love to try all foods (no allergies that we know of, and definitely not very picky)... although, we're health conscience, and try to have a healthy mix of exercise and diet; we enjoy a drink every once in a while, but intolerant to drunken liabilities. On the note of romance, we're first and foremost interested in competent crew and a positive experience... we are most concerned about a happy boat. That being said, we do hope to meet life partners with similar interests, life goals, etc during this trip.

The interior has 3 staterooms - master aft (Captain's room), mid-ship cabin (Chief Mate's), and the forward v-berth with double bunks (guest room/3rd crew). The interior is outfitted with teak... lots and lots of teak. We cut, sanded, and varnished every piece. She is equipped with 2 full heads and 2 stand up showers with plenty of hot water, and electric fresh water porcelain toilets. The galley is spacious and super functional... We ripped out (entirely) the old galley, and installed beautiful countertops, all new appliances including a Vitrifrigo double drawer fridge/freezer, one (of two) air conditioners blasts the galley, taster faucets for the 2 watermakers, and a drinking faucet with 2 filters - a 5 micron, and then .5 micron. We love cooking in this galley. The salon is large with a table that collapses to make a couch for movie night. The nav station is equipped with new Raymarine Axiom displays, a big magnum inverter, Fusion stereo system, and all the other basics... however, the nav station chair is something that can't be missed... one of our last projects, the chair doubles as a seat and a hides a Dometic ac/dc fridge/freezer... super nice overflow to the Vitrifrigo. She is powered by a Yanmar 110 turbo diesel - the good we go fast; the bad - we go fast. The Yanmar likes to move at 2800 RPMs, that means going slow is usually temporary (fast = 8knts, on average). From a safety perspective, we have her equipped with 7 fire extinguishers, ditch bag with EPIRB, MOB devices for PFDs, flares, strobes, certified life raft, etc.

On deck, she has fairly new sails, all new standing and running rigging, 6 massive bronze port lights with screens - lots of light and air, and 8 more medium sized matching bronze port lights. She's a center cockpit, and extremely comfortable and dry (in the full cockpit enclosure; all new as well). She has fore and aft lockers... fore deck is for anchoring equip, spinnaker, extra line, etc; aft locker holds the new Northern Lights 6kw generator with a sound shield (you really don't know it's on when inside the salon/galley. We have two dinghies - the main dinghy is a new 10'7" Inmar with a 20hp Suzuki and euro-helm (it has a bench with a back and a steering wheel). This is our expedition dinghy. We love to dive and fish off her. The second dingy is the shore dingy... a new Achilles with a new 2.5hp Yamaha. Around the oiled teak cap rail are new stainless steel stantions, life-lines, and a 8' davit off the stern to hoist the main dinghy high at night during anchor, and was engineered to turn the dinghy around such that the motor end of the dinghy sits on the yacht's transom (on skis). Perfect for making passages; it doesn't move, and very safe. It's been the talk around every anchorage I've been to.

What is expected of the crew

We follow a policy of leading with kindness. We are happy, easy-going, positive people that love to learn... we are constant life students. We are clean, and focused on healthy living. We want to give back, so raising funds/awareness through social media outlets to help or contribute to people we meet along our travels is on our minds. It would be a huge plus if you have photography, videography, and/or editing skills. Keeping up with the demands of the boat is tough sometimes, so looking for someone that is committed to keeping a tidy home and help everywhere necessary with a super positive outlook and attitude. This is our life, we live once... we need to take in all the sites, hike the peaks, swim the waters, and have a great sense of appreciation for the playground we play in. We are looking to evaluate new crew in the Sea of Cortez this summer of 2019, and should things work out, continue on with our journey to other parts of the world.
