Dear Shipmates
Introduction
About three years ago I read a sailing adventure novel and knew I had to try it. My wife said, "go for it" so I started sailing on a nearby lake. I also started visiting my sister in southern California where I take sailing lessons on the ocean (not sure if it's ok to mention the name, but it's a blue water sailing school in Marina Del Rey, CA). My dream is to sail the Bahamas and Caribbean on my own sailboat. I am hoping for a sailing experience which would help me build my skills getting me closer to my dream. Do I want to have fun, you bet. However, I am looking to experience the full cruising life style (fun while helping address the daily needs of each other and the boat). Sailing wise, I have completed the ASA 101, 103, and, 104. Between sailing classes I rent a sailboat on a lake in Utah and rent up to a 30ft sailboat from my sail school in CA. I am of course 'green' and I'm ready to absorb information. I believe teachers come in all, ages, genders, nationalities.
Oct. '19 update: My wife and I have moved and we are now living in North Carolina. My goal is to buy a boat and work on my sailing skills.
June '20 update: I've bought my first boat! A nice Irwin 30. I'm still interested in crewing, especially on longer passages.

I was raised on a small farm so I am comfortable around machinery and equipment. I used to be an avid motorcyclist and hence have experience taking apart and cleaning carburetors. I do my own basic car engine maintenance, changing alternators, thermostats, plugs, oil. I can do basic electrical work, use a voltmeter, change a switch, hook up batteries in series or parallel. I love being outdoors and have been a lifelong hiker. I am the main cook in our household. I'm also the main cook when our friends get together in a larger group.
While not a skill, I want to say I am in good physical condition.

Historically connected with the land I have had an awaking to the ocean and wish to continue to explore it.
