Dear Shipmates

Introduction

Ask me anything.

I'd take perfect adaptability over perfect planning everyday...

I grew up in suburban Atlanta; outdoors kid, oldest of three, boy scout, fort-builder and way too many sports! I got my undergrad in religion and philosophy at Georgia State, moved to northern California for a year, two years in North Carolina for most of a graduate degree before I was swooned away by agriculture. I moved to the gorgeous Delaware river valley for three years of farming; 10 acres, small scale, organic, mostly veggies and fruit, some animals, flowers, and medicinal plants. Took a couple of years for traveling, backpacking, sailing, train-riding. I landed a cooking job at a high end restaurant in the Catskills; a fun, fast-paced, tiring year in one of the most beautiful places I've lived. I spent two years whitewater raft guiding in the Poconos during the summer and surfing, sailing, and exploring Florida in the winter. For the last 18 months I worked with a farm in northern Alabama building an off-grid (solar-powered, freshwater-catchment) cabin. I converted a van/bus into a traveling tiny home.

Along the way I've done a lot of carpentry, construction, electrical, plumbing, mechanic work, whatever it takes.

I am observant and detail-oriented, two parts curious, one part cautious, constantly smiling, physically fit, and adventurous. I am centered and reflective, indulgent and playful, self-aware, compassionate, and intuitive. I am a quick and eager learner. I enjoy problem solving and working with my hands. I'm a lifelong outdoorsman. I am CPR and first-aid certified, with plenty of real-time experience.

I am usually doing one of the following: camping, hiking, biking, fishing, surfing, rock climbing, cooking, reading, fire gazing, kayaking, snorkeling, cloud watching, navel-gazing. I'm eager to learn spearfishing and kiteboarding.

Ideally looking for charter work, or sailing/snorkeling/spearfishing adventures.

Lemme know if that might work for you.

My sailing background,
I grew up sailing a Sunfish on Lake Jackson in Georgia.

2015, I crewed for many racing sailboats in Lake Pontchartrain, New Orleans. I caught the bug to do some ocean cruising.

2018: I set sail from Miami onboard a 1980, 37' Irwin, captained by a retired Navy submarine engineer. The Irwin was later had to be hauled out in Nassau for repair. I took a crewing opportunity on a 1990, 38' Island Packet with a lovely older couple bound for Georgetown.

Later, I joined an Australian captain, Steve, on a 2014 Lagoon 421 bound for Puerto Rico, in the middle of his circumnavigation. I was 1 of 3 onboard and we rotated in three hours on, six hours off shifts. I found joy in the solitude of night watches, learned tons more about modern boat systems, enjoyed the rhythm of passage, practiced my fish filleting, and gained further competency in understanding the weather. Compared to the older monohulls I had been on this cat was a floating condo! Absolutely gorgeous, comfortable to the max, completely outfitted for blue water.

2023: a 1976, 53' ketch from Tampa Bay, Florida to Panama. Once in Panama, I stayed aboard the boat for 7 months repairing and restoring many components.

Feb 2024: I delivered a 42' Morgan Out Island from Ft Lauderdale, Florida to Shelter Bay, Panama. After being chartered for 2 weeks. Myself and one other made the return delivery from Panama to the Bahamas.

May 2024: First solo delivery job, 10 day trip on a 54' Moody from Cancun, Mexico to Wilmington, North Carolina.

I have found sailing to be a confluence of many of my skills, passions, and interests. I'm a competent sailor, I can handle a boat under sail and under power. I'm as comfortable in the workshop as I am in the kitchen. I have a lot to learn, and a lot to offer.

I'm at my best when I have clear boundaries, a purpose, live music, bright stars, and lots of friends and food around a table.

Looking forward to connecting with y'all!

I am hungry for more life at sea; I am game for whatever that ends up being. At the moment, I am ready and able to sail for a couple of days to a couple of months, in and around Florida, or south to the Caribbean or Central America especially, Panama or Costa Rica. I am open to the possibility of commiting to something more substantial if the right opportunity arises.

I hope to be living aboard and traveling by sailboat for a few months this year. I've had some amazing opportunities to learn about cruising in general and about what I want specifically in my future vessel.

I am learning the lessons of simplicity, rest, patience, silence, service, wilderness, and how to follow my bliss wherever it leads me. I am great at supporting others, filling the gaps in a team, and doing whatever it takes to keep the a train running down the track. I have an immense amount of energy and passion.

It's always ideal to make money along the way, but I'm open to volunteering for the right opportunities. I think I am particularly well suited to chartering and delivery, but I'm game for almost anything.

Like I said, ask me anything, let's see if it can work.
