Dear Shipmates

Introduction

UPDATED Jun 11, 2024. I’m NOT on my boat. I’m NOT available until maybe December 2024…I’ll be PREMIUM then!

The following was previously posted. For starters, I’d love to find a crew who knows how to sail & maybe has race experience. I/my boat has won the Bocas Regatta the 3 times we have entered. The BOCAS REGATTA is scheduled on Feb. 17, 2024. Consider being part of a very low key winning team. You’d join in with my crew that gathers just for this event. They will not be onboard except during practices & the race.

The Bocas Regatta is actually a single, flat water, light winded race of 10 miles…inside the archipelago. We won the first three [3] editions of this race. Again, this is a simple sail twice around a short triangular course. Just good fun.

If you’re not a competent sailor…then I’m looking for crew/companionship to enjoy the boat / the archipelago / the resort…

[UPDATE…March 30, 2023. I’ve been blessed with a FAC crew for the last three weeks. It’s been glorious, cruising the Bocas del Toro archipelago. She will fly home to Vienna, Austria on April 3.]

I will be returning to my boat in Red Frog Marina, Isla Bastimentos, Bocas del Toro sometime in early January 2024.. It sure would be nice for a crew member | friendly face to show up, shortly thereafter. The first order of business will be to put the boat back together…sails on, re-rig the halyards, provision, prep the Yanmar, all the while, enjoying the Marina, the resort, the environment, the jungle, the beach, the ambiance, the beach restaurants…just living…exquisitely.

The rest of the Season will be spent enjoying…sailing for 4-5 hours, dropping the anchor, BBQ, snorkeling, hiking, beach combing, dining, exploring…for several days, then, sail another short distance & do it some more.

My niece & nephew will be with me March 4-15 for some cruising in Bocas.

I plan to fly home no later than ~ March 26, 2024. I have to go photo the total solar eclipse.

Please read the recommendations at the end of this profile.

If you enjoy the profile, consider enjoying me, &, the archipelago.

We can fly freely into Panama City (PTY) Panama & take the regional carrier, AIR PANAMA, from the regional airport in Panama City (PAC) to BOCAS (BOC). There are no Covid requirements.

The cruising season is rapidly approaching...I’m interested, are you?

I will be looking for crew/guests once again. I will hope to have a spectacular person, or persons, in whatever windows of time that work, who can add to my enjoyment of the boat & the archipelago. Notice...the big window of time begins in January, &, only until near the end of March.

The yacht is a beautiful sailing vessel. My wife passed away, so, I need crew to enjoy, &, with whom to enjoy the boat & the unbelievable beauty of the region. Of course, it is nice to have crew with some sailing skills, but, ALL who step onto a boat bring valuable life skills...the ability to: learn, listen, bathe, cook, clean, cooperate, smile, contribute, help, show enthusiasm, follow instructions & procedures, socialize, look after each other's safety...

I'm a California guy, so, I only speak ENGLISH, no smoking, &, I insist on cleanliness.

Sailing Inside the archipelago affords us many miles of sailing with not a chance of sea sickness. There are nice quiet anchorages, spectacular snorkeling, fresh lobsters sold to us by the indigenous population... My sailing experience is quite extensive...I've raced the Trans Pacific Yacht Races to HAWAII (4x), Trans Atlantic, UK, EUROPE, BERMUDA RACE, 1979 FASTNET RACE, San FRANCISCO to BOCAS-thru the PANAMA CANAL, TAHITI/FRENCH POLY, et al. You won't find more experience than that.

At the present, my plans are to cruise the BOCAS DEL TORO archipelago. This includes anchoring in places like STARFISH BEACH, DOLPHIN BAY, the ZAPATILLAs, CAYO CORAL/CRAWL CAY, MONKEY ISLAND, et al...with likely visits to el Clandestino Restaurant, &, MONKEY ISLAND/URRACA private Island. Snorkeling in some of the finest in the region is always part of what we do.

Despite my history of yacht racing, now, I just sail/cruise to enjoy the islands, the archipelago, the environment, &, importantly, the crew[s] with whom I am blessed.

If you are looking for blue water sailing, many days at sea, night watches...I am beyond all of that. I've been there...done that. Now we sail for several hours to an anchorage, we anchor, we enjoy. What I provide is more of the cruising lifestyle | sailing living in an unspoiled | safe | quiet | remote area | 83° water temperature | no foul weather gear | I tell you.

What is expected of the crew

Compatibility is important! I'm here to enjoy the boat & the locale, and, share it with a crew that is able to contribute to my enjoyment of the boat, &, the archipelago. I have absolutely no room for acrimony, animosity, discord... If you know everything...stay away. I don't claim to know everything, but, I insist on learning from people who have experience & know stuff...not from people who have "learned" stuff.
