I have the maturity and judgement of 60 years. I own a C&C 40, which I have sailed to the Bahamas and back. I teach part time at Columbia University, and have a lot of time off. I'm seeking more experience sailing off shore in areas with which I'm not familiar and hope to learn from an experienced skipper.
I have ASA certificates for Basic, Coastal, and Bareboat Charter Sailing; and I've been a licensed private pilot (single engine airplanes) for 25 years, which has given me a lot of experience with navigation and weather.
I crewed a delivery from Miami to Tortola. My watches included midnight to 4am all 9 days, during which I single-handed the 42 ft Jeanneau, trimming sails, reefing, and raising and dousing the mainsail and jib.
I also crewed a delivery from Tortola to Exuma in a 52 ft Outremer catamaran, with a skipper and another mate. We kept 3 hour solo watches, but rarely changed sails single-handed.
In March 2018 I crewed a delivery of a Freedom 35 (a monohull sloop) from Nassau to Kingston, Jamaica.
I cruise every year with a friend in the Sea of Cortez for 1-2 weeks at a time, keeping night watches on a Bavaria 45.
This past year I took my own C&C40 to the Bahamas and back with crew.
