Dear Shipmates

Introduction

Hi There!
I've been sailing for 14 years and have 12-15 years additional experience in small power boats (20'-25'). I received a USCG, OUPV, Captain's License ("six pack") years ago, but never used it due to career moves.

For work and as hobbies, I have a varied background; former civilian commercial and instructor pilot (single engine - light aircraft), a military and civilian parachutist/skydiver, a USAF aircrew member, scuba diver. One of my passions for 10-12 years was climbing (rock and big mountain).
Former adrenaline junkie but have toned it back a bit and now enjoy quiet time as well.
I was fortunate being able to travel internationally, and outside the U.S. I have lived in England, Taiwan, Peru, Tunisia, Cuba, and Colombia. With work and vacation, I've traveled to about 30 other countries under good and not so good conditions. I'm a native English speaker and pretty fluent in Spanish, I lived and worked in Spanish speaking countries for over 10 years.

I am seeking crew who has sailing or other relevant experience, or is eager to learn; Someone who can and is willing to communicate, who is willing to help with all duties or tasks (helm, line handling, provisioning, cooking, cleaning, watch standing, passage planning, etc).
Bonus points if you can help with maintenance!

About the boat, the plans, and current crew

usually cleancomfortablevery safeusually single handedshare experienceseek adventureface challenges

Plans;
- Currently in Port Townsend, WA, USA.
- My boat is on the hard for the winter season. She is undergoing maintenance on her rigging and engine.
- I hope to have her back in the water in May/June of 2025. If maintenance is complete, I may cruise the Gulf Islands of Canada or the San Juan Islands of the US.
- Plans may also include a short cruise north to Vancouver Island. And in late July or August south to Oceanside/San Diego.

Boat;
She is a 30' sloop rigged sailboat. Upgrades include standing rigging, main sail, minor upgrades to the engine, the addition of a removable solent stay, asymmetrical spinnaker, new electronics, larger battery bank, refrigeration and more. She has a pretty standard layout for a 30' vessel - V berth forward, enc losed head, a main cabin with settee berths and starboard quarter berth and a small but complete galley.

Recent trips;
-2024, July to Aug, solo - Hawaii to Port Townsend, WA.
-2024, April to June, solo - Galapagos to Hawaii.
-2024, March to April; Panama to the Galapagos Archipelago.
- 2023, January to April 2024; from San Diego, CA area along the Pacific coast to Panama.
- 2022, various two-three day sails along the SoCal coast, a week long trip to Mexico, multiple one week sails to Catalina and a two week sail to the Channel Islands lying offshore from Santa Barbara, CA.
- Sep-Oct 2021, passages south along the coastlines of Washington, Oregon, California to Oceanside, CA.
- Aug 2021, a cruise in the San Juan Islands, WA.
- Jun-Jul 2021, a solo passage from Kauai, Hawaii to Port Townsend, WA
- Jun 2021, a solo passage from Oahu to Kauai.
- May 2021, two week cruise of the islands Hawaii, Maui, Molokai, and Oahu.
- Apr-May 2021, passage from San Diego, CA to Hilo, Hawaii

What is expected of the crew

clean & tidydiligentfit & healthyrespectfultrustworthyconfident swimmerrarely/unlikely seasickgood communicatortravel light (little luggage)eager to learn & workpositive outlookcan pay own expensesenjoy cookingdon't mind cleaningcan follow ordersharmony

I'm looking to share the sailing experience and mini adventures encountered during a day sail or a cruise.
I'm comfortable with both novice and experienced crew and don't mind being shown a better way to do something!
When in port or anchored, etc - I'm not looking to simply chill, but to kayak, go ashore, hike, etc. - I do like a sundowner after a complete day.

Crew expectations;
Perform any/all crew duties you're able to do...passage planning, navigating, standing watch, helm handling, line tending, provisioning, preparing meals, cleaning, etc. Experience is always welcome, but more important are desire and willingness to learn if you don't have lots of experience. You need to be reasonably fit, not overly prone to sea-sickness, adventuresome and young at heart.
