Just me, I'm not bringing any crewmates
Introduction
Dear Shipmates, my name is Martin and I am 30 years old. I am fluent in English, Slovenian Croatian/Serbocroatian. Recently I have picked up on some beginner Italian. I've been around sailboats my whole life and bought my first sailboat (Elan 430s) when I was 12. I have first been "employed" on a sailboat at the age of 15, and from then on every summer for about two to three months, till the age of 19, when I decided to stay in my hometown, working as a tourist boat captain. In the meantime, I worked as a skipper on sailboats up to 22m. I also co-own a company educating people to pass different national maritime licences. In the fall/winter of 2018 I have successfully skippered a 50 year old 44ft ketch from Sicily to Florida. I have worked as head of skippers for a Slovenian company that specialises in tailored sailing experiences and also regatta type sailing vacations for larger groups. In the season of 2022 I had the pleasure to work as a Captain on Mangusta 92, a 28 meter jet powered luxury yacht.
I have sailed through a big chunk of Mediterranean, did one Atlantic crossing and had countless unrepeatable experiences doing so. I am handy with tools and have a natural instinct for jury-rigging things when they inevitably break down mid navigation. I understand how boats work and behave and I am capable of running a solo operation if the boat will allow for that. I understand the principles of how different systems work, but every boat is different and there is always a lot to learn.

My previous employments were a tourist boat captain, a freelance skipper, head of skippers for a small Slovenian company called Navigandum and a sailing instructor, both in the classrooms and on water. The biggest yacht I have captained was a Mangusta 92. The yacht was purchased by the owner in France, spent 3 months in an Italian shipyard (where I supervised a refit and servicing), then proceeded to round the Italian peninsula and spent the charter season in Croatia. In the 2023 season I was a skipper on a 60ft Beneteau Oceanis, cruising the Balearics, where I will spent the summer season of 2024, starting in late May.
Apart from boats my other love is music. I play guitar and drums, and for some time I played in a somewhat successful rock band as a lead guitarist. If you got a guitar on board, we can jam... Or at least we can try, I got a little rusty over the years:)

I simply love the lifestyle. The feeling of wind in your hair, salt on your skin. An office with a spectacular view. Murmuring of the sea against the hull. The feeling that you are really responsible for your own mistakes and misjudgements. No social media, no stressing out about a meeting that is going to take place next month. Solving problems as they appear. Being present in the moment.
Since I have invested quite a lot of time, energy and money in to passing my certificates, gained experience and already work in the field professionally, I would like to be paid for my work. On the other hand I will always find it more important to earn experience than to earn money. I always love to learn new things, so if there is an interesting position available, let's see if we are a good fit.
Cheers!
