Dear Shipmates
Introduction
I am a now retired school teacher but am still limited to shorter sails as have an elderly parent at home. Longest crew gig was from Vanuatu to New Caledonia to Brisbane. I have also crewed from Port Lincoln to Kangaroo Island to Adelaide. Recently I did a short sweet sail from Brisbane to the Gold Coast- my local stamping grounds. Earlier in 2014 I completed my RYA Competent Crew certification. In December 2015 I crewed on a bass strait crossing in an 11m sloop from Eden in NSW to Hobart in Tasmania. Though I am fitter than most 63 year olds, I am slimly built so I need the electric winch these days. I still surf a 7'7 fish here on the Gold Coast- mostly beach breaks as it's so crowded here these days! I also love a snorkel or just a swim or lazy wallow. On land I love my bicycle and hiking. Ever the explorer, I am curious by nature, so remote locations are treats for me but I also enjoy uncovering quirky discoveries on the more beaten track. I have lived my life according to school terms and so many artificial markers of the passing of time - sailing for me is independence from all that is artificial - connected to the wind, the tides, nature, the seasons....

The love of sailing started when I hitched a ride on a 33 ft Trimaran in Indonesia in 2010 for 3 weeks comprising day sails and longer anchorages. I loved combining surfing and sailing in remote, rarely visited locations. I have also crewed a 51 ft Catamaran in the South Pacific and a Passport 40 monohull off the South Australian coast both through findacrew. The crossing from New Caledonia to Brisbane took 5 days and 5 nights. I am an adventurous type with a positive outlook on life. Previous skippers (who are no longer on findacrew) would be happy to give a reference over the phone or by email if required.
My motivation and reasons to crew on a boat

I am interested in learning more about sailing and navigation, living off the grid, experiencing other cultures, visiting interesting locations and just being with nature. Even though I ticked the romance box, this is not my main motivation and if it is your priority, then then please don't contact me. I completed my open water diver training Feb 2012 but would need a refresher to dive again. It's not about getting from A-B and ticking off a bucket list. I'm a water girl - love to be in it, on it, under it or even just looking at it. I also love the simple sustainable lifestyle - wind and solar power, food from the ocean if lucky enough - I love sailing boats - what more can I say!
