Ahoy,

We are an easy going married Australian couple (Mathew 38 & Kate 33) who are keen to gain as much knowledge and experience about ocean sailing as possible and perhaps someday captain our own vessel.

Mat has considerable sailing experience including local yacht and dinghy racing. He is a confident skipper having completed the RYA Day Skipper and Coastal Navigation courses (theory and practical). Together Mat & Kate have chartered yachts with family and friends around the Whitsundays, as well as crewed for friends on longer passages (including night sailing). Mat also has 8 months experience working as a deckhand on a 62ft motor vessel. We are not searching for a paid position, just some practical sailing experience and adventure.

We enjoy scuba diving, snorkelling, fishing, surfing, reading, music, cooking, sailing, swimming, hiking and anything outdoors. Mat is a experienced physiotherapist and beach lifeguard, Kate is an experienced paramedic, chiropractor and surf lifesaver. Together we have extensive massage, acupuncture, first aid and water rescue experience.

We enjoy having new experiences, meeting different cultures and get along well with people of all ages/backgrounds. We are not extreme in any beliefs, religion, diet or otherwise and get along with most people we meet.

Non smokers or drug users. We enjoy a social drink (particularly with a meal or sundowners) but can easily go without if the captain prefers a dry ship.

We are not afraid of heights and do not usually suffer from sea sickness. We are extremely keen to travel and willing to learn anything you can teach us about sailing, navigation, etc. Hopefully we can positively contribute to your journey, with good company and sharing some of our skills.

My long term goal is to sail from South America, island hopping across the Pacific, home to Australia. In the short term I want to learn as much as I can about sailing, the ocean, weather, navigation..... Any experience is good experience at this stage.
